PROPHECY There comes a day to even the greatest and most imagin- ative writer when the mind refuses to produce an idea. when this day came to me I substituted for the mind my initiative and began to look around. A truly good author writes about only what he understands, and about what in this world do I know the most? Why m own life of course. Thus I came to write m autobiography. The natural place to obtain informa- tion for my book was m old diaries. Being at present nearly seventy years of age, I have acquired several such volumes. While going through these books I ran into several incidents and names which may recall to you the same past and people .I remember. So I have set down bits from m diary that you too, may be reminded. New York City December 3, 1960 .....will be off to Europe by plane to get material for my latest book, EUROPEAN LIFE. I discovered, by chance, that two of my fellow passengers will be Helen Kranjcevich and Warren Bibbins, that great comedy team, who are touring Eu- rope this winter. If there is..... . Paris, France December 5, 1960 .. ..... arrived in Paris to start work on the second chapter, PARIS NIGHT LIFE. This afternoon I had lunch with Ed Mingo, that well known foreign correspondent. 'We ate at a charming place on the Rue de Pau, a side walk cafe, where we were en- tertained by Andre Bertonne, a singing waiter, who was form- erly known as Berton Anderson. Paris December 8, 1960 Last night I began research on chapter II. The party I was with was very gay. Pat Bradley, the well known stateswoman who is here to speak before the Paris Woman's Club, was with us last night and while .... . Paris December ll, 1960 .....am almost too tired to write. Never have I been in such a gay crowd. Derek Engstrom, the famous explorer, was with us, and the evening was filled with anecdotes from his ex- periences. It is nearly h:O0 a.m. now and..... ' 1

Trudy Harlowe leaves one lower locker filled with dead rats and other various and sundry items to the poor embar- rassed soul who gets it next year. Harold Armstrong leaves one slightly used trombone to poor Mr. Peterson in hopes that he can find someone who can get, if not music, at least the dents out of it. Nancy Dahlgren leaves a collection of doodling on the pages of the school books she has had over a period of four years to the future owners of these books. Ken Morehouse leaves a little peace of mind--Cto teachersl. Bonnie Bath leaves her ability to put the under classmen in their place fthe lowest spot you can think ofj to the class of '52. Marilyn Esterle leaves her headache powders, her ice bags, and her book, WHow To Relaxn, by E. Z. Dussit to next year's Hi-Jinx editor. Milton Kranjcevich leaves the many hours he has wasted ,in study hall to Father Time. Bernice Pedersen informs us that contrary to form and dis- pite all proverbs she is taking everything with her. The Senior Class of 'Sl leaves....... To the Juniors - one ten by twelve foot never laundered crying towel. To the Sophomores - that horrifying thriller, diller of all mysteries, NYou Too Can Possess Beautyu, by the an- thor, Ima Grucem, Jr. To the Freshman - one leather-bound volume of WYou Can Change the World,U by James Keller. Paris, France December lh, 1960 .....devote the entire book to this subject and entitle it PARIS NIGHT LIFE. I have found this subject has unending possibilities. I was talking to Katherine Roncevich, who is in Paris to study the fashion trends there, and who has some very interesting ideas on the subject ..... Sunshine Sanatorium, U.S.A. January 22, 1960 ....research on my last book was too much for me, so here I am at Sunshine, recouperating. One of my fellow sunbeams Kas the doctors here call usb is Pat Nilsen who, after suf- fering repercussions from her job as taxi driver in New York City, is here to rest. Yesterday the..... New York City April 23, 1965 .....before starting work on my latest book, CELL 1313, some of my fellow literary geniuses are giving a dinner in honor of Mike Grant, the famous midget-auto racer. He and Bruce Pettersen are now working on, as he put it, Wthe hot-rod to end all hot-rods.W As for ........ San Quentin, California July 3, 1965 .....this will be my first night in a prison cell. I- am here to do research for m latest book, CELL l3l3. I had a nice long talk with the warden, Joe Boyd, this evening, and while we were talking..... San Francisco, California ' October 7, l965 .....after three months in a prison cell it is good to be out again. I may take a vacation now and go up to Sun Valley. Dave Engeset recently opened a lodge there, Happy Hogan. From all I have heard it is very nice, so..... Sun Valley, Idaho October 16, 1965 .....third day at the lodge. I'm having a wonderful time. I met Hector Bonnar up here today. He is a ski instructor, and a good one. He has had offers from several Alpine Lod- ges, including the Bavarian Alpine Club, but..... Boise, Idaho November 6, 1965 .....doctor said I may be laid up for six weeks with this fractured leg. No more ski lodges for me, not for a while, anyway. Dr. Janet Larsen, the bone specialist, was called in to see if anything could.....
