Univ. of Southern Cal. its W Summer Study HW i Mr. C. Spencer Tocus, who became Vashon's fourth principal upon the retire- ment of Mr. W. G. Mosley last summer, entered the Saint Louis Public School Sys- tem as a teacher of music in September, 1926 and was later transferred to Stowe Teachers College lnow merged with Harris Teachers Collegei as a teacher of music, English, and public speaking. In 1933, he came to Vashon High School as a teacher ot music, in which capacity he served until 1946, when he was appointed as- sistant principal. ln September, 1955, he became principal of Vashon. Mr. Tocus appeared as piano soloist with the Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra in 1934. He was cited by the Saint Louis Urban League at one of its annual din- ners tor outstanding work in the community, was selected as one of tive outstand- ing citizens by the Saint Louis American newspaper, and an article concerning his general career appeared in the magazine section ofthe St. Louis Globe-Democrat in 1931. At present, Mr. Tocus is a member ot the Education Committee ot the Mid- America Jubilee to be held in Saint Louis in September, 1956, and a lite member ot the Board ot Directors ot the Greater St. Louis Scholarship Fund, Inc. He belongs to a number ot educational organizations, among them, the Washington University and tield chapters ot Phi Delta Kappa and the VV. U. chapter ot Kappa Delta Pi. He also is a member ot Phi Kappa Phi National Society tor High Scholastics. Mr. Tocus has completed all work tor his doctorate degree in secondary ad- ministration with the exception ot writing his thesis. ...Qi 4
