CLASS HISTUHY In the fall of 1939, thirty-five small tots started their school days at Vaniue. The first eight years were lots of fun although everyone looked forward to his high school days. 'Then in 1947 it happened!! Our high school life began. We became Freshmen: Our class officers were: President-Luana Nye, Vice President--Ioe Bright, Secretary-Eldon Bame, Treasurer-Mary lane Sherick and Reporter- Earlene Beard. Our class sponsor was Mr. Nichols. Red and white became our class colors and the white camation our class flower. We chose Courage is Success as our class motto. The next year we took another step as we became Sophomores. Class officers were: President-Ioe Bright, Vice President-Luana Nye, Secretary- Treasurer-Mary lane Sherick and Reporter-Norman Lee. We chose Mr. Hanline as our class sponsor. Then we became Iuniors. We were still closer to our goal. We presented the three-act comedy Seventeen is Terrific , which proved to be very success- ful. A banquet was given in honor of the graduating class of 1950. Our Iunior class officers were: President-Mary lane Sherick, Vice President--Eldon Bame, Secretary-Treasurer-Bonylin Hatch, Reporter-Norman Lee and Miss Oman was our sponsor. Alasl We became Seniors. Our last step in high school. Our class officers were: President-Ioe Bright, Vice President-Virginia Hendricks, Secretary- Treasurer-Bonylin Hatch and Reporter-Luana Nye. For our sponsor we chose Miss Oman. A three-act comedy Who Wouldn't Be Crazy was presented by the class. Our main interest was to secure money for our trip in the spring. We wish to thank our teachers, parents, and the members of our community who have helped us during our twelve years in school. We are looking forward to the future and hope to be able to accept the opportunities and responsibilities that we encounter. CLASS PRUPHEEY Dear Bonnie, Recently I was talking with Miss Oman, our Senior Class sponsor. She asked if l had heard of the professions of my former classmates. I thought that I knew where most of them had gone but discovered that I knew only that you were employed as chief instructor of Home Economics in Vanlue Local College. Miss Oman agreed to tell me of the others. She said that George Kessler is teaching Advanced Chemistry in Vanlue College. This reminded me of his special interest in the subject While he was still in high school. Harry Richards had advanced to the position of the president of the college after teaching Social Relations for some time. The rest of the class members are scat- tered in different parts of the world. Ada Gunther is a missionary in Alaska. She chose this territory because of the tem- perature conditions. America was too hot for her health most of the time. Eldon Bame is also in the northern part of North America. He is a mountie with the Northwest Mounted Police in Canada. While Miss Oman was visiting in the west she met Luana Nye who is a member of a dancing trio. Norma Hotelling and Phyllis Boyles, her two partners in dancing, are touring in California during their vacation. Maudie Dyer and Mildred Roark have chosen nursing as their profession. They are Navy Nurses in San Francisco. Orval Davis entered the Navy too as a Navy doctor. He is now assigned to the ship the Sea Van . Patsy Pratt chose the army as her career. She is a sergeant in the WAC Corps. You remember, perhaps, that the super- intendent in high school always predicted someone from our midst would enter politics. Well, loe Bright is a Senator in Washington and Norman Lee is a Representative. Nor- man was recently elected Speaker of the House. Virginia Hendricks, a short, clark haired girl, chose to be an airline hostess. Her last assignment was on the plane 5l . The pilot of this neat iet plane was none other than David Pelphrey who designed the plane him- self. They will make a non-stop three-hour flight to lapan in the near future. Ray Sullenberger is a matador in Mexico. He is especially noted for his determination and bravery While in the arena. His work is never dull or boring according to all reports. Arlen McRill owns and operates a cozy little restaurant near his home town. He has six pretty girls hired as waitresses and cooks. Business is always good after a basketball game. For the past several weeks there has been a professional girls' basketball team playing here in benefit games. The coaches, Mary lane Sherick and Frances Risner, told Arlen that they have a championship team. Earlene Beard operates a thriving LONE- LY HEARTS CLUB in Reno, Nevada. I was greatly surprised to hear that many of her former classmates write to her for help in solving their problems. Only one of our classmates is married. Mary Carter was married shortly after grad- uation and moved to Alabama. She has three children now. I wonder if they have acquired the southem accent yet. A Rose Thomas always loved music, you remember. She studied opera and has sched- uled her first concert. It is to be held in VANLUE CONCERT HALL. It was fun finding my classmates of 1951 and good luck to all of them in their chosen professions. frli RS l3. .vc si 1 fn, 1 Q , . First, all the reporters get their news in on time. After the articles are read and the corrections are made the typing is begun. The articles are typed in the three-column style making allowances so that the right margin will come out evenly. Next comes the laborious task of typing on the stencils. After typing for a while, stopping to make corrections, and once again continuing our typing, the stencils are eventually completed and are ready for the artists' work. The stencils are next put on the mimeo- graph machine and the correct C?l number of copies are printed. Last, but by no means least, comes the assembling and distribution of the finished V-Hi-Bee. The deserving credit for the production of our student publication, the V-Hi-Bee, should willingly go to the staff and to our advisor, Mr. Nichols. Isn't it just that simple? Isn't that what makes successful teams . . . successful individuals . . . successful businesses? And isn't that why American business, under ourfree competi- tive system, constantly gives you better and better products? Take gasoline, for instance. If we make a good gasoline, we'll get our share of customers swinging into our stations. For a while. But our competitor across the street starts selling a better gasoline . . . more and more of our customers are going to start turning in there. To get this business back, we have to find a way to produce a still better gasoline. As soon as we do, that puts the challenge right up to our competitor again. That's competition. And thatis what keeps America moving forward. No one has ever thought of another way that works so well . . for the benefit of all.
