Class History We have now reached the top of the ladder to success. Twelve years of instruction have helped us reach the top. The first eight years of school were long and uneventful and at times seemed very dull. The four years that we have had in high school have seemed too short, but they are ones that we will always remember. ln the fall of I946 the school building trembled as nineteen members of the Freshman class entered and stepped on the first rung toward the top of the ladder to success. We were named Baby Freshman, the name fitting us quite well. To start the year off with a bang, we chose Mellford Wilcox as our President, Ruth Ann Hendricks, Vice President, George Kuhlman, Trea- surer, Leura Bibler, Secretary, Marilyn Arnett, Reporter, Mr. Lawrence Nichols, Sponsor. Many of us joined the various clubs such as F.H.A., F.F.A., and Glee Club, and some worked on the V-Hi-Bee. On September 8, l947, sixteen of us slowly trudged up the steps to find ourselves being placed in the big study hall with the juniors and Seniors. We were Sophomores now and really proud of the fact. We again started our year off with a bang when we elected jack Arlington as our President, Janine Lay, Vice President, Betty Patrick, Secretary, Wilma Shuck, Treasurer, Glen Thomas, Reporter, and Mrs. Virginia Bair, Sponsor. We chose our class motto lt is only the ignorant who despise education, our class flower, American Beauty Rose and class colors, green and white. We sponsored no special events this year, but earned some money by working at football and basketball concessions. We closed the year by having a class party at jua- nita Gore's home in Alvada. After a long and hot summer the school bells rang once again for our class of l2 juniors. We came into session by choosing as our President, Janine Lay, Vice President, Ann Gorsuch, Secretary, luanita Gore, Treasurer, Ruth Ann Hendricks, Reporter, Wilma Shuck, Sponsor, Mr. Cosmo Plotts. On November 3rd we received our class rings and could hardly believe our eyes-we were now almost to the last rung of the ladder! We sponsored a pancake supper and worked again on concessions. We presented our Junior Play, called Green Shudders, on April 29. We put on our best dresses and stiff collars when we gave the Seniors their annual banquet. When the year ended we marched proudly in with the Seniors at Baccalaureate and Commencement. Again we ambled up the steps in the fall of '49 to find a small but mighty class of twelve Seniors sitting in the row by the windows in the study hall. Being on the last rung of the ladder, we chose as our President, Ann Gorsuch, Vice President, Glen Thomas, Secretary, Natalie Beck, Treasurer, Wilma'Shuck, Reporter, Marilyn Arnett, Sponsor, Mrs. Ethel Cole. In this year of important events we sponsored two dinners, and had all of the football and basketball concessions. We also presented a Senior Class play called, For Beauty's Sake, under the direction of Miss Lorine Oman. The play was a three-act comedy which took much hard work and weeks of practice. The annual staff was chosen and the class worked hard to present the successful yearbook Scarlet and Gray. We closed our school days with the Baccalaureate and Commencement exercises which were held in May. Last, but not least, we won our trip to Washington. We wish to sincerely thank the faculty, our parents and members of the community, who have helped us gain an education during our twelve years in school. We will look back upon these years as the best days of our lives.

Class Prophecy Giggle Soup presents Giggles and all her Little Laughs. The year is nineteen-hundred-seventy and I, Ruth Ann Hendricks, have replaced Arthur Godfrey who died laughing at one of his own jokes. This morning I think I'Il interview my audience. Whom do I see in the front row? One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine ,ten people! ! The woman resembles lanine Lay very much, even though she is rather plump. Yes, it is janine, one of my old classmates back at old Vanlue. She is now Mrs. Norman Faber, but poor Norman has died from hearing her nag, now she and her nine young 'uns are touring the country on bicycles. Who is that stunning looking creature? Why, I do believe it is Ann Gorsuch! She is dressed very beautifully and has a mink coat to complete her costume. Ann has become a Power's model specializing in modeling bathing suits. Next whom do I see but lack Arlington and Wilma Shuck, two more of my classmates. They have been married fifteen years. Jack is an African game hunter and Wilma stays home and takes care of their red-heads . . . two sets of twins and a set of quintuplets. Wait! What's this! I Whom do I see but Marilyn Arnett and Carole Hotelling. Carole has become a dentist in New York and Marilyn is here having her plates refitted. Marilyn has become a great opera singer and has her own program on station VAN situated in Vanlue. My, but my classmates are successful! ! She also owns a television network called HandIebar's station GRIP. Way back in the corner I see a distinguished looking gentlman. Yes, it's Glen Thomas or rather I should say Reverend Thomas. 'Glen has been a preacher for many years now. Lately he has been touring the country speaking in the large churches of the nation. It is reported that he may seek nomination for the presidency of the United States. Good luck, Glen! I Whom do I see now but my dear friend, juanita Gore. I find that she and Milton Hall lnow her husband! are a dance team. They hold square dances in Madison Square Garden every Saturday night. The lady in the corner looks just like Natalie Beck. It is! She has be- come a hairdresser and clothes designer. Vanlue is now the Paris of the United States. What's this? She is in New York on her fifth honeymoon! ! All four previous husbands have died! ! The next person I see is Betty Patrick. Betty always liked pretty cars, and I find that she is now owner of the Buick and Cadillac Corporation located in Sammsville, a suburb of Vanlue. Betty is married to Eddie Samms, who settled the village of Sammsville. Heavens! l've seen all my classmates except Glen Robinson. Listen! ! I hear someone singing in a deep bass voice. Alas . , . it is the Swoon-King . . . none other than Glen. He is singing Cheer for Old VanIue in a very romantic mood. It reminds one of all those football games the team won when we were Seniors back at old Vanlue. l've seen all of my classmates today. What a happy reunion! How hard we all have worked to become successful! ! When we went to dear Vanlue, we slaved away every minute of the day doing our lessons to the best of our ability. . The producer tells me that it is time for me to sign off, but l'lI be back tomorrow. So long, from Giggles and all her Little Laughs.
