We have endeavored to leave with the students memories of their school days gone by. We are grateful for the splendid co-operation of our lower classman, and for the help and advice of our faculty for their part in helping to make this Scarlet and Gray a success. ,Q W 1-v -r-vw-rv' , K 2 ,- will M ' '.. ,Jl.,.5,,..,.'.' N I I e- V C s :l S ' f f E In the fall of 1937, we mounted the first round of our Journey up the lad- f der of knowledge. E We have many pleasant memories of our first eight years of school life. 3 g 5 5 In 1945, we began our high school life as Freshmen. For the first few days 5 . we were taunted by the upper classmen with cries of WGreen Freshmen,' but they 2 nk gradually accepted us as a member of the high school. we chose Mrs. James as 2 lg our class sponsor. Class officers were as follow: President - Dorothy Cook, Z 5 Vice-President - Robert Lee, Secretary-Treasurer - Rose Bechtel. For our class 3 Q colors we chose blue and gold. For our class motto we chose 'Onward Upward to 5 Our Goal,' and for our class flower we chose the yellow tea rose. g ' The next round of our journey was our Sophmore year. Class officers were as 2 l follow: President 6 Richard Woodruff, Vice-President - Ronald Nye, Secretary - 2 ' Margaret Roberts, Treasurer - Charles Gilliland, and reporter, - Reita Hendricks. 5 , Mrs. Bair was chosen as our class sponsor. We presented the one act play 'Mag- 5 , nolia Blooms. 5 5 Upon climbing the next round of the ladder, we entered our Junior year. Q 1 Class officers were as follow: President - Raymond Pratt, Vice-President - 2 i David Bright, Secretary - Marjorie Crew, Treasurer - Rose Bechtel, and reporter - 2 ' Ronald Nye. Miss McChesney led us through this year as our class sponsor. We S presented the comedy play 'The Angell Brats,N which groved to be successful. g we gave a banquet in may in honor of the class of 194 , with the able assistance a of Miss McChesney. f . At last we have reached the top round of our ladder. Class officers were Q 1 as follow: President - David Bright, Vice-Presidnet - Thomas Sherick, Secretary 2 Q Treasurer - Rose Bechtel, and reporter - Joyce Hatch. Mr. Page was chosen as ,Q 2 our class sponsor. On November 22, we produced another successful play entitled 5 5 'Hilarlty House'. This year proved to be full of many various events and activ- 5 Q ities. We sponsored a bake sale, held concessions at football and basketball J 5 was to secure enough money to enable us to take a trip in the spring. Our main interest' i 'A Q Many members of our class have been active in sports, F.F.A. and F.H.A. club S 5 work, and also in music, and athletics. We have all worked on the annual with 5 E the aid of Mr. Nichols. J H 5 Z We wish to thank all of the teachers and also the community for all they 5 5 have done for us during our twelve years of school life. 2 Q With the advantage of a good high school education behind us we feel that E gww can go out and take up the duties and responsibilities which lie before us. 5 2 F E N7 a 5 5 ,AIUKIIISIZMMV WHOSE!! . - 1 ,4.enQ.4.-..4z4u,.u..'.v.w-v..f.s..v vp. , gnu.. For such a young chemist you seem J , very sure. . . . . 5 'a 1 I followed his advice, setting my mind on my former classmates, many of 5 F whom I had not seen since commencement. J Q Appropriately enough, the first glimpse I had was that of a large crowd Q Q milling around a theatre entrance. Curious, as always, I took a quick look I S at the center of attraction and whom should I see but 'Glory Glory , the fa- I mous singer with Vaughn Monroe, who was none other than my old classmate, 5 5 Margaret Roberts. Also billed with this singer was a killer-diller movie 5 1 starring Millie Moe , better known to me as Norma Thomas. How time changes 5 W things 1 Thinking this a good spot to rest a few minutes, I drifted inside 4 , where a News Reel was being shown. What!!! There's a picture of another 1 L classmate, none other than Robert Lee, who is now replacing Otto Graham as 2 g quarterback with the Cleveland Browns. Strange things do happen! Guess I f ' had better mosey on. 3 g As I drift along I now seem to see dear old Vanlue School and guess 3 what? Florence Bright is teaching the third grade and Bonnie Ward is a 5 secretary to the Superintendent. And whom do I see giving a lecture to the 3 g girls? None other than Joy Caudill, now a Conover Model. On to Vanlue, which is by now a thriving city of a half thousand or so. 3 My eyes first are attracted to a sign, D1pert and Sherlck, Inc. Upon in- 2 vestigating, I find that another classmate, Tom Sherick is co-owner. He 3 brings me up-to-date with other members of our class. Rose Bechtel operates 1 a beauty parlor just around the corner, Martha Cole is a professional photo- Q grapher and Joyce Batch is an airplane hostess. Good old Tom, knows all 3 she news. Just as I'm leaving, who do I run into but Pat Haines and her Q . rood of youngsters. , V 3 Q On around the corner and up a side street to the nLoca1 Centern, I chance 5 to meet Hancock County's great steer raiser and farmer, my old pal, Raymond ' 5 Pratt. With him is another Classmate, James Mullins, who owns a farm north E of town. They bring me up-to-date about the others of our class. Miss Hollister, the psychology teacher, planned to prove to them how silly it is to oe afraid. To keep them from running out on her experiments, she sees they have only enough gas to get to the cottaye. Kathy, always was a nrraidy Catn so her panic is expected and Agg1e's habit of quoting passages from blood curd- ling mystery stories doesn't help either. But there are real terrors too. Miss Hollister bepins to realize that this is not what she arranged at all--that something serious is afoot. A masked orowler binds ann page the colored maid and a grim warning is thrown through the window. Word comes over the radio that a dangerous criminal has escaped. lhen in horror they discover that he is in the same'house with them.
