W. ., aaa .jvhalory In the fall of 1936, forty-two pupils entered Van- lue School. under the watchful guidance of Miss Dorothy Shull. The first six years seemed rather uneventful to many of us, but as we entered Iunior High School in 1942, school life seemed to pass more quickly. When we were in the eighth grade. we worked hard to prepare for our Eighth Grade Test. Our class ranked high in Hancock County. Our past four years have been happy and mem- orable ones. Twenty-six students filed into the Freshmen rank, in September, 1944, under the sponsorship of Mrs. Hutson. We chose as our class President: Iohn Norris: Vice President, Molly Farmer: Secre- tary-Treasurer, Betty Casteel: and Assistant Secre- tary-Treasurer, Iean Van Horn. We chose our class colors, red and white: class flower, red carnation: class motto, Onward Ever, Backward Never. The next year we became Sophomores, being one step nearer the end of our journey as upper- classmen. Our class of twenty-four members elected class officers as follows: President, Marjorie Barber: Vice President, Norman Pratt: Secretary-Treasurer, Elmer Walter: Assistant Secretary-Treasurer, Irma Russell: and Sponsor. Mrs. Petennan. The next step upward placed us in the role of Iuniors. There were twenty-three of us with Mr. Henning as sponsor. The following officers were elected: President, Iohn Norris: Vice President, Norman Pratt: Secretary, Betty Casteel: and Trea- surer, Bonnie Crawford. The big event that year was our Junior play, For Pete's Sake , with Miss Oman as our di- rector, given on April ll. On May 9, we gave the Seniors a real send-off by being their host at the annual Iunior-Senior banquet at the Elks. This climaxed a year's work. Eighteen of us entered the Senior Class in the term of 1947. Mr. Wiljamaa was chosen as our advisor: Norman Pratt, President: Herbert Hisner, Vice President: Irma Russell, Secretary: Betty Cas- teel, Treasurer: and Molly Farmer, Reporter. Our first major activity was the production of our Senior Play, The Skeleton Wa1ks, under the direction of Miss Oman. Our second activity was making our yearbook a success. With the help of our teachers, and the leadership of our class officers, we have now reached the goal which we set for ourselves when we entered the first grade. O
