Class History HAVING finished our Senior year, another goal has been reached. This, perhops, to each member of our class who wonderingly entered our great school building twelve years ago, was considered the ultimate achievement of life. But now we re- alize that if we are to progress, our aims and objectives must be changed as we near the accomplishment of each. ' The Senior of our graduation exercises must be and is a far different individual from the first grader who entered school in the fall of 1930. Of the 'thirty-four who enrolled as primary students in that year, eighteen are still faithful members, and as the years have rolled rapidly by, we have been happy to welcome new ones to our midst each year. The first eight years of our school career was spent in acquiring knowledge to form the foundation for our high school courses and we all anxiously looked forward to the time when we would become green Freshies and have our first opportunity to participate in various activities. The great day we had dreamed of for so long came all too soon and in 1938, our class of thirty-six students entered the Freshman rank under the sponsorship of Miss Janice Shuck. We chose as our president Wendell Nye, but his leadership was short, for in November of that year, due to accidental death, we were deprived of his faithful services as well as his companionship. We were fortunate, however, in that Nana Bechtel carried on successfully with the assistance of Vera Wells and Mary Ellen Redick. During our first year of the great adventure, we were well represented in athletics, music, and the scholarship team. As Sophomores, we were under the capable direction of Miss Nellie Ketzenberger, sponsorg Jack Dean, presidentg Roberta Miller, vice-president: Donnabelle Shull, secretary-treasurerg and Donnabel Shuck, reporter. Upon reaching the third step of our high school career and having attained the title of Juniors, we became more serious and reserved. This we proved to the satis- faction of all by the successful production of our class play Sulphur and Molasses , the serving of a chicken supper, and the banqueting of the Seniors. The activities of our Junior year were managed and led by President Mary Ellen Redick, who was aided by Clair Oman, Ardeth Thomas, Nana Bechtel, land Reva McKee with the responsible supervision of Mr. M. T. Monson. As Seniors, we promoted various activities of which the two most outstanding were the class play I'm in fthe Army Now and the publication of the Scarlet and Gray . These achievements were made possible by the aid of Mr. H. E. Hinkle, our advisor, and the corps of students we chose to represent us who were: John Roberts, presidentg Clair Oman, vice-presidentg Donnabelle Shull, secretary: and Roberta M iller, treasurer. Our high school career was climaxed by the Commencement Exercises on May 22, and we bade farewell to Vanlue High, remembering every pleasant experience we had enjoyed there for the past twelve years.
