WE BUILD THE LADDER BY WHICH VVE CLIMB - Class Motto PREFACE As we stand on the last rung of our high school life, We stop to behold the past years below, The friendships and the joys still in our memories live, These will not pass though years may come and go. FIRST RUNG As 180 scared freshmen entered the portals of V. H. S., an im- mense new world opened before us. Soon we had made friends from all over the valley. Trying to find the right rooms left us bewildered and dazed. The teachers explained over and over again precisely where each room was located, and, since we were very bright students, we got lost every time the bell rang to change classes. The subjects were tough,,' but some how with luck and grace, we lived through the year and placed our feet from the first to the second rung of our high school ladder of education. SECOND RUNC Ascending the second step, we were hindered in our educational progress by such monsters as photosynthesis, and Caesarf, However, the meeting of new friends through the joining of clubs, the growing importance in school life, and the smile from that Certain Someone relieved us, taking heart, we continued working, thus completing the second rung of the ever-reaching-- upward ladder. Chosen as the ones who had gone through the year with the greatest poise and personality were Carol Hines, Princess, and James Bair, Prince. The one who labored on his project with the greatest sense of humor was Ed. Bartolini, Jester. THIRD RUNG We were almost finished with the ladder that would lead us to graduation. We were B. T. Ofs now - Upperclassmen! The place of our enjoyment was growing more and more pleasant. Football games, dances, and other school activities took up most of our time, but in our spare momentsv we managed to construct the third rung of our educational ladder. Officers of our labor gangv were: President .. ..... ....... W illiam Mendicino Secretary ..........,.,,. ..........,.....,....., I ack Shuster Treasurer ..,...,....,.,.... ,........ A .. . ...........,..,.. Mike Varrato Historian ,...,...................,..........,........,....... Roland Ripoli The roses among the thorns were Vice President Kaye Schaeffer and our Class Flower - the Yellow Rose. LAST RUNG Leading us through our Senior Year was King James Bair and Queen Carol Hines. Our comic relief was Mert Heddinger as Jester. We have now again reached the portals of V. H. S. Before us lies a wide world beckoning us to heal its sores, strengthen its body, and enlighten its mind. In answering these calls, be it as teachers, engineers, soldiers, mill workers, husbands and Wives, fathers and mothers, we will be using the materials God gave us to build a Ladder of Life of which we can be proud. EPILOGUE And now these days of school are o'er, We therefore meekly pray, May Cod in all our paths of life Be with us on our way! -Roland Ripoli, Historian '55 10
