YI 'Q N211-IE EPEBTATUR f 1 f S,k 'i' fb' ijt! mil li . 11- A If X 1925-19311 Gllzxss gif-inrg iii In the fall of 1926, onefhundred and thirty Freshmen came to Vandergrift High School from the Lincoln Building. In june, onefhundred and ten. of this number will receive their High School diplomas. The enrollment is still, entact, except for a few who have been transferred to other schools or deceased. 1 It was not long before the class of 1930 became the talk of the High School and the town. Under the direction of R. B. Nixon, for the first time since tlif: school was built, an audience of 1700 people were assembled in the auditorium for a program call-ed forestry Night. This was unusual, because it was not advertised as an entertainment of music and comedy, and the auditorium had heretofore never been filled to capacity. The profits of this program equipped the General Science room with a microscope, large dictionary, lantern slides, dark window shades, pictures, and other things of interest and use to Science students. When we were Freshmen and Sophomores, the Contract System was entirely new. We are the first class to graduate from V. H. S. when this system was used throughout the entire school program. The Art classes were a novelty in 1926, having been placed in the school system only a year before. Today class-es in Art are rated equally with other subjects. With the organization of Student Council, the Student Body has gradually taken over some responsibilities of the teachers. They take charge of dismissals and act as guides and ushers on all public occassions at High School. just thisiyear Glee Club performances are directed by an ofiicial from among the members. The orchestra, in chapel, is also under student direction. Seniors are leaders in both of these organizations. A new sort of -entertainment was inrtoduced in 1929 by the Class of '3O. A carnival was held in the gymnasium, and was a rousing success. A gigantic number of extrafcurricular activities have monopolized the ilives of students after school hours in the past few years. The number of clubs has increased from three to twentyfthree. In 1930 the Cooking Classes began a regular Cafeteria service for two days a week. just last summer a new addition was made to the building, the new Manual Training Department and the junior High School. Many members of the 1930 Class have played on Athletic teams and many of them starred. The 1930 Football team has a remarkable record, and the 1930 Girls' Class Basket Ball team has never tasted defeat in their four years of playing. Members of the class have also helped to make operettas and plays a success, including the Senior operetta, Up in the Air, and the Senior Class Play, to be given May 21, 1930. Q For the first time in our history, the letter V will be 'awarded for activities other than Athletics. It will be given to the members of the Senior Class who have done outstanding work in journalism. Last year the graduating class triumphed a successful. year by going to Washington D. C. The majority of the Class of 1930 will make the same trip June 2-6. And so we are drawing to a close four years of school life, the end of schooling for most of us. We wish to thank all those who have helped to make them profitable and pleasant for us. '
