I . aptam Kenneth mith Captain Kenneth G. Smith, a native of Baltimore, Maryland, graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 1952. After a tour of duty aboard the USS CHARLES P. CECIL QDDR-8351, he entered flight training in 1953 and was awarded his Navy wings in 1954. From 1954 through 1958 he served with Attack Squadron 175 flying the A-1 Skyraider', deploying to the Mediterranean aboard the aircraft carriers CORAL SEA and FRANKLIN D. ROOSEVELT. In 1958 Captain Smith returned to the Naval Academy where he served for three years as an instructor in the Science Department. In 1961 he joined Carrier Airborne Early Warning Squadron 12 flying the E-1B Tracer,' and deployed aboard the carriers FRANK- LIN D. ROOSEVELT and ENTERPRISE. In 1963 he attended the U. S. Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California, and was awarded a Master of Science in Management. From 1964 to 1966 he served on the staff of Commander Cruiser-Destroyer Flotilla Six in Charleston, South Carolina, as Anti-war Warfare Officer and later as Operations Officer. In 1966 Captain Smith reported to the Bureau of Naval Personnel for duty in Officer Distribution Planning and Programming. In 1968 he assumed command of Carrier Airborne Early Warning Squadron 123 flying the E-2 f'Hawkeye and deployed to the Mediterranean aboard the carrier FORRESTAL. From 1969 to 1971 Captain Smith served as the Navigator of the Navy's training aircraft carrier LEXINGTON, homeported in Pensacola, Florida. This was followed by three years on the staff of the Chief of Naval Education and Training in Pensacola. On 21 August 1974, he arrived in Nashville and assumed command of the NROTC Unit at Vanderbilt University. if f W Z W8

SEARLE, USMC IZXIQICIUTIVE Ul'l lClER Lieutenant Colonel Searle was commissioned in 1956 as a Second Lieutenant in the U.S. Marine Corps after graduation from the University of Washington with a B.S. in Civil Engineering. At the University he was a Scholarship NROTC student. After attending The Basic School and eaming his wings, LT Searle served with VMA 121 in Califomia, the Far East, and aboard the USS TICONDEROGA, and USS CORAL SEA. Following a tour with the First Marine Brigade at Kaneohe he earned the degree of Aeronautical Engineer fAeEj at the U.S. Naval Postgraduate School, Monterey, Calif. Graduation in 1966 at Monterey was followed by a tour with MAG12 at Chu Lau, RVN from which he reported to Naval Air Systems Command, Washington, D.C. as Engineering Project Officer for Transport and Observation Aircraft. In 1970 and 1971 he served with the Military Assistance Command, Vietnam in Saigon as Operations Staff Officer. From that tour he reported to Yuma, Arizona where he was promoted to his present rank and where he served as Executive Officer and Commanding Officer of both VMT103 and VMAT102 and as Executive Officer of MCCRTG 10. He is married to the former Barbara Louise Brown of Yakima, Washington. They have two daughters and three sons, one of whom is an NROTC student at MIT. LIEUTENANT WILLIAM M. MARSHALL, USN 1lC INSTRUCTOR LT Marshall comes from the small country town of Lynchburg, S.C. but now makes his home in Vero Beach, Florida. He attended the University of South Carolina one and a half years before enlisting in the Navy in 1959. Subsequent assignments included San Diego, Great Lakes, Clarksville, Tennessee, and the USS HOLLAND QAS-321. He was selected as a NESEP in 1964, graduating from the University of North Carolina in 1967 with degrees in Mathematics and Political Science. After attending nuclear power school and guided missile school, he was assigned to the USS LONG BEACH ICGN-91 in the Weapons and Engineering Departments. During this tour he qualified as an OOD, TAO, and Engineer Officer. He is currently completing his assignment at Vanderbilt as the Senior instructor and advisor and will be assigned to the USS NIMITZ ICVAN-68j, homeported in Norfolk, Virginia. He is married to Lamarcia Johnston, and they have two girls, Kathy and Vicki. They would be delighted to have any of the midshipmen who come to Norfolk visit with them. i
