We have endeavored to include in these 452 pages some of the people who have been omitted in the past. These are peo- ple, whom we have come to associate with Vanderbilt, people, like the Director of Alumni andthe Assistant Deans, whom we have contacted in many of our daily activities. We have attempted, also, to recognize those individuals who have made contributions to Vanderbilt while we have been here. Sometimes it has been merely to recognize the work of the Deans of the seven, colleges, without whose efforts there could be not University. In some cases, it has been to acknowledge. the achievements of specific members of the faculty. It has been, also, to recognize on behalf of the COMMODORE a few otherwise forgotten seniors who have done what they could to improve Vanderbilt during their four years. Perhaps, there have been instances when not enough credit has been givenito accomplishments, This year we have seen- the revival of ,Sunday services' in Benton Chapel under the newly- appointed University' Chaplain. There was also theievening when an interested administration gathered on the Under- wood stage to answer the questions of a concerned student , One thing, however, appears to be rather- evident. During the past four years, Vanderbilt has demonstrated a definite tendency toward advancement. Our University has reevaluated itself, liberalized its outlook, broadened its scope, improved its facilities and its faculties, increased its size. In short, while we have been here, Vanderbilt has outgrown the often awkward adolescence of a sectional institution and has begun to show the maturity of a university with a national stature. What has been accomplished has taken the combined efforts of the entire University-the trustees, the faculty, the administration, the altunni, the students. The progress Vanderbilt has made thus far is remarkable, we hope, it is only a beginning. In appreciation forand in recognition of all that he has do-ne to further the best interests of the Vanderbilt Community, we dedicate the 1967 COMMODORE to . . .
