If X. x' ,2', max . l DEAN W. L. FLEMING DEAN F. C. PASCHAL Dean of the Graduate School Dean of College of Arts and Science I he Emma Vanderbilt has the good fortune of counting among her assets an administrative staff that is fully qualified to carry on the work and handle the countless problems that are continually confronting the oflice force of a large university. At the head of this administration are the eight deans, upon whom the burden of the university's worries are showered. The student body is respectful in its attitude toward these representatives of law and learning, and yet does not feel that they are out of reach of student petitioning and consultation. Our deans, in addition to being the school authorities, are still human, thoughtful, sympathetic persons who do not feel above the students they supervise. DEAN FLEMXNG, the head of our graduate school, has been for years one of Vanderbi1t's best-known and most respected characters. Not only in the administrative field and class- room, but also in the line of literary accomplishment is Dr. Flemingls name well known. For a number of years he served as the Dean of our whole Arts and Science Department, but under him that department's scope became so enlarged that the work had to be divided. Dr. Fleming then took over the Department of Graduate Instruction in which he has been particularly interested and whose ranking he has materially advanced. DEAN PASCHAL, whose promotion to the deanship of the college after a stay with us of less than two years is evidence of his efficiency and ability, is a hard-working and untiring execu- ci5'Ql9Ir IQg'E5 X . SCHUERMAN Dean of School of Medicine Dean of School of Engineering I hr Braun DEAN LEATHERS is the guiding light of the Medical School and the god-father of all medical students. Dr. Leathers is recognized as an authority on preventive medicine as well as a thorough teacher and a capable executive. It is remarkable that 'Dr. Leathers and a number of his medical faculty in the whirl of their crowded Work have the opportunity to consider the many extra-curricular interests of the medical students that they so carefully tend. DEAN SCHUERMAN is one of the most respected Figures that is connected with the uni- versity. He is a teacher of no mean ability and well qualified in other respects to form the policies andqcarry out the work of the Engineering School. The position of prominence which our Engineering School now holds is due in a large part to his efforts. DEAN BROWN, though not well known personally to our undergraduate student body, is widely recognized as one of the South's leaders in the Held of religious education, and it is with a great deal of pride that every Vanderbilt student claims him as our l X -,, -.. ,nw . . , . ..,-.,....V.,......,...,,...,.. ,,,.,....aL. .. ....u.......,....,..,....,d,.......,..... --
