At the lirst meet- ing short talks were made by Mrs. J. I 1. Kirkland, Mrs. Jesse Overton and Mrs. Rogers Caldwell. Officers were elected and chairmen of committees were appointed. It was voted to hold monthly meetings, to make rcjrorts and get together. I he Chairman of the llirift Stamp Committee during the first month sold over $223 worth of Thrift Stamps. 1 he Red Cross Committee re| ortcd twelve or fifteen girls some of them every week—who had been down to work at the headquarters on Church Street. Owing to a shortage of wool and the lateness of organization, not much knitting could be done, but the knitting committee is already looking forward to net winter. I he unit stands ready to assist in patriotic work whenever called on. They assisted the Vanderbilt V Oman's C lub in the sale of T hrift Stamps during the week of the Automobile Show. They assisted in the collection of books during the week when the effort was made to collect reading matter for tire soldiers. In other words, they simply organized to be able to do their bit in the most efficient way possible. Vanderbilt is proud of her more than a thousand sons who are serving their country, but she is also glad to feel that the daughters at home are not idle. w •v’ (21)
