Years come and go so swiftly in this life of ours. A wide mantle of white, the bursting of green from bush and tree, a blaze of heat from an unfathomably blue sky. a carnival of leaves, then the silent snow again, and the year has fled. It is well for us if we have some sign, some lifted finger to mark its abiding place on the road of memory. If this volume can serve to recall the days gone by. when time shall have drawn his veil behind us. and space has crept between each one of us. once so closely associated in the pleasant past, then it shall have done its work, for it shall have fulfilled the mis- sion on which we send it.
