Big New Gym Brings Vandal Victories o M11 y G R M M kp hl C R St When the Vandals lourneyed to I-hllsboro From the very beglnning It was anybodys game W1th the score t1ed almost all the Way but ended W1th the Vandals tra1l1ng 48 to 46 All the loyal Vandal rooters were on han to cheer for the boys at the Centraha Hohday Tournaments Although We were handed a defeat by P1nckneyv1lle 1n an over time game We Went on to beat Salem 1n our ftrst Consola tlon game Th1s palred us aga1nst Centralla and here we lost out During the season the Vandals rolled ove Pana Shelbyv1lle Paris Effingham and Mat toon in h1gh style but met defeat with Robm son G1llesp1e Champalgn and Taylorv1lle It was a glor1ous v1ctory for the Vandals when they zoomed to a 62 to 60 win over the Centraha Orphans The Orphans led at half t1me but the Vandals came back t1ed the score and went ahead to edge out Centraha In the flrst game of the Reglonal Tourna ment the Vandals ran over Beecher C1ty and The Eagles led at the end of the flrst quarter l4 to 9 but dur1ng the second quarter the Vandals settled down and lead at half trme 27 to 22 They kept the lead and ended the game 53 to 48 Th1S put Vandalla 1n the flnals playmg against Cowden By defeatmg them 87 to 56 the Vandals broke two records Squeak Taylor broke B111 Lester s old record of scorlng 33 po1nts ln one game by ptling up 38 and the team broke the record of 84 points 1n one game by makmg 87 W1th thts Wm under their belts the Vandals Went on to the Mt Vernon Sectlonal facing Mt Vernon 1n the1r f1rst game Durlng the f1rst quarter the Vandals kept up W1th the Rams and were tralllng by only one polnt But thls seemed to be the turn1ng po1nt and from then on lt was Mt Vernons game This ended the 1950 Sl play1ng season and the annual Basketball Banquet with D1ke Eddleman as guest speaker put away basketball for another year Q52 Back R w: Mr. i s, I.
