G. A. A. Left to right: S. Mammen, Vice-President, M. Mabry, President, Mrs. Wells, Sponsor, R. Purtilar, Sec,-Treas. Those beautiful and charming girls you see running around the gym on Tuesdays and Thursdays are the glamorous athletes otherwise known as members of the Girls' Athletic Association. Cn these two evenings after school under the watchful eye of Mrs. Wells, we girls, eighty in number, have cr chance to exert all our surplus energy in volleyball, basketball, softball, archery, dancing, and bowling. Each month our members plan a party appropriate for that month. Among these was the hayride and weiner roast at Cunningham's home in October. Following this in November, we made vegetable corsages, grabbed us a fellow, and had a gay time at the Sadie Hawkin's Party. Other events not to be forgotten include caroling and refreshments at the Bass' home, coasting at the country club, and initiation ceremonies. After enduring many hardships of the informal initiation, thirty-five girls took the pledge and became new members of the G.A.A. organization. ln the formality of candlelight and with piano accompaniment of Pat Craycroft- Marcy Mabry, Ruth Purtilar, Sally Mammen, Suzanne Brooks, and Betty Brooks explained the goals, purposes, and aims of the G.A.A. in an effective manner and prepared the new members for active work in the organization. cc 43 rv
