Two thousand miles later, as the sun crept over the horizon, we could see Oahu, home of Diamond Head and Waikiki Beach. The intense blue water that surrounds the Haw- aiian lslands, has beckoned men of the sea for cen- turies. Surf and sand combined with the tropical atmosphere enhances every visit. 66 ' PHILIPPINE ISLANDS The temperature rose as Vancouver neared the Philip- pines, a country made up by over seven thousand is- lands. The climate urges each man to shed his clothing and seek a cold drink, finding refuge under a shade tree. Subic Bay and Olongapo City is filled with over-friend- Iy people who look forward to visits by sailors of the Seventh Fleet. As dusk turns to night, Olongapo comes alive with music, shows and night people. The sleepy village awa- kens with a roar. M f - -fc f'--'ff f AUSTRALIA Australia, known as the land down under, was exciting, adventuresome and truly a different world. The people were very friendly in welcoming the Vancouver to their shores. We visited Rockingham, Perth and Fremantle, enjoying our extra time while repairs were made so we could continue our mission. fe-vi 68 I g Je rf NPRM- 5 K, lx Ti A S' gil EQ fir. ' .
