1 . W A N 0 x'Xxxs The WESTPAC 76 77 deployment of VAN- COUVER was an exciting and satisfactory ex- perience for everyone involved In my opinion this was due to two major factors. The first essential in- gredient was that our skills and months of prepara- tion successfully enabled a fine ship to meet every commitment proudly. There is a great sense of pride in us because we know VANCOUVER was always ready and always in the vanguard carrying out every obligation. The second important ingredient was that we had an interesting schedule. The names of the places we went reads like a dream cruise: Kwa- jalein, Sydney, Okinawa, Philippines, Keelung, Hong Kong, Singapore, lnchon, Sasebo Cbrief stopj, Eniwetok and Hawaii. For many, it capped years of WESTPAC deployments by rolling all the good into one. For all, it will provide fond memories for years to come. As you read this book, take pride in the part you played in our magnificent success. We proved again that a positive professional and happy attitude pays dividends. Without a doubt, the VANCOUVER ver- sion of WESTPAC 76-77 epitomizes Van-Can-Do. Warm Regards, D. G. RAMSEY Captain, USN Commanding Officer
