1 1 l COMMANDING OFFICER 6 AUGUST 1971 - 11 MAY 1973 Captain Arthur I. Hodder, Ir. I Upon his graduation fromfthe U.S. lNaval Academy in 1947, Ensign Arthur I. Hodder, Ir. commenced his NavalCareer as Gunnery Officer and Navigator in USS GUADALUPEAIQAO-325. Following this year and a half 'tour he returned to the Naval Academy for duty as ra Company Officer in the Executive Department. I, Subsequent-sea tours' 'during this ,twenty-six years service were served' invUSS LKEPPLER CDDE-7655, USSIALBANY .CCA-1237, and USS MERRIMACK lTAOf37D. As' a Lieutenant Com- mander he was ordered as'Executive Officer in USS IOSEPHK. TAUSSIGjKDE+103OD. While still a Lieutenant Commander he received orders to become Executive Officer, USSPURDY CDD-7345. Following this tour and Qpromotion to commanf der, he assumed command of the USS WILLIAM R. RUSH CDDR-7145. He has had duty on the Staffs of CINCLANTFLT, COMSECONDFLT, COMSOLANT and COMCRUDESPAC. It was while serving in the Operations Division in the Chief of Naval Operations that Captain 4 1 . ' Hodder was promotedto his present rank. From CNO duty he took command of Destroyer Division 252, homeported'at.Pearl Harbor. ,His next billet was a tour of shore duty as Force Training and Readiness. Officer, Staff, Comman- der Cruiser-Destroyer Force,iUS Pacific Fleet. This duty was cut short when he received orders to USS VANCOUVER CLPD-29. He assumed command of VANCOUVER during ceremonies' at Subic Bay, P.I. on 6 August 1971. i I I The Hodders are a confirmed Navy family. Mrs. 'Hodder, the former Miss Ioan, Lee Cunningham, is a native of Annapolis, Maryland. Her father was a Commanderldin the Medical Service Corps. Her mother was a member ofthe history-making Yeomanettes during.World War I and her brother is a Naval Aviator. The Hodders have three sons, lim, Tom and Bill. lim is carrying ony -the family tradition, having recently joined the Navy. He is currently a Sonar Technician on board a Guided Missile Destroyer homeported in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. V
