Firsts were in the 2-mile re- lay, the 440 relay, the shuttle hurdle relay and the broad jump relay. April 8, at Roosevelt, Portland. Vancouver, 64Q Roosevelt, 593 Cleveland, 7. Vancouver won its early season lead in the field events and the hurdles. Firsts were won by Don King, high hurdles, 16Q Don Bleth, 440 yd. run, 55.93 Bill Hamman, low hurdles, 24.65 Don Wardrop, shot put, 42' 6 3 George Stecher, pole vault, 10' 6 3 and a three way tie for first in the high jump by Bob Taylor, Tracy King and Jim Rhodes, 5' 7 . April 12, here. Vancouver, 83W3 Battle Ground, 253 State School, 175. The Trappers won their second straight meet, placing well in all events. Outstanding were Bill Hamman's 24.1 on the low hurdles and Eugene Perry's 10.3 on the 100 yd. dash. Other Vancouver firsts were Don King, high hurdles, 16Q Chuck Harris, mile, 41583 Bob Buker, 880 yd. run, 2:08.53 Don Wardrop, discus, 122'3 Don Scott, broad jump, 19' 2 3 Erwin Miller, Don Bleth, Jim Walling, and Eugene Perry in the 880 relay, and a tie between Tracy King and Bob Taylor, high jump, 62 April 16, Centralia Relays. Vancouver was able to take only fifth place at the Centralia Relays this year with 17 points. The first four places were taken by Centralia, 3453 Renton, 26, Lakeside, 22 3 Bellarmine, 19. Erwin Miller earned the only first place for the Trappers in the junior 100-yd. dash at 10.8. Seconds were taken in the 2 mile relay and a tie by Tracy King and Bob Taylor in the high jump. April 22, at Jefferson, Portland. Vancouver, 86VzQ Wash- ington, 28VZ3 Jefferson, 14. The Sophomores always played interesting games as preliminaries to Varsity contests. The aggressive yearlings lost but two games during their con- ference season. These boys show much promise for the J.V. and Var- sity squads next year. Vancouver lost their prestige by being nosed out by Lin- coln. Don King, gained a first in the high hurdles in 165 Bob Taylor and Tracy King tied in the high jump at 5'8 for a first. These were the only Trapper firsts. April 30, Longview Relays. Vancouver grabbed the Long- view Relays for the seventh time in ten years. The Trappers gained 68 points and Centralia was second with 55345 points. Firsts were won in the shuttle hurdle relay, the broad jump jump relay, the 440 relay, the 2 mile relay and the sprint medley. Erwin Miller also won a first in thejunior 100 yd. dash. May 6, at Franklin. Lincoln, 623 Franklin, 43, Vancouver, 24. The Trappers took a drubbing by being weakened in prepa- ration for the Sub-district Track Meet. First were won by Doz- ark, high hurdles, 16.8 and by Bob Herb, pole vault, 10'9 . May 7, Sub-District Track Meet at Longview. Vancouver held a seven point lead over second place Kelso, to win the Sub-District meet with 4916 points. Don King won the high hurdles in 15.7 with Tracy King second. Eugene Perry won the 100 yd. dash in 10.7 and was second in the 220 yd. dash Don, King also won the low hurdles in 24.4 with Bill Hamman sec- ond, Bob Buker earned a tie for second place in the 880 yd. run. Don Wardrop was second in the shot put. Dick Young, third in discus, and Bob Herb tied for third in the pole vault. Bob Taylor gained one in a three way tie for first in the high Jump at 5'8 . The Trapper 880 relay team was also second. All these Trappers qualified for the District Track Meet.
