Soph Basketball Mr. Len Suckling, Coach In his coaching debut at Vancouver High School, Coach Len Suck- ling led his Sophomores through a successful season. The Sophomores always played interesting games as preliminaries to Varsity contests. The aggressive yearlings lost but two games during their con- ference season. These boys show much promise for the J.V. and Var- sity squads next year. Basketball Mr. Lester Long, Coach Guiding his team through an almost unbelievable season, Coach Les Long molded together a team which could taste nothing but vic- tory. Winning Twenty-two consecutive games in an unblemishedsea- son, the Trapper J. V.'s trounced such teams as' Woodland and Wash- ougal who placed high in the Trico League. Coach Long scheduled a game with the highly touted Scappoose High, which was entered in the Oregon State High School Tournament. For the climax of the sea- son they defeated the favored Oregon team with a convincing 57-47 win. All but veteran Bob Miller will return next year to provide capa- ble Varsity material. Track Mr. Lester Long, Coach, March 25, relay meet at Franklin. Franklin, 27, Washing- ton, 263 Vancouver, 25. Vancouver showed strength in the dis- tances, short sprints and hurdles. Firsts were in the 2-mile re- lay, the 440 relay, the shuttle hurdle relay and the broad jump relay. April 8, at Roosevelt, Portland. Vancouver, 64Q Roosevelt, 593 Cleveland, 7. Vancouver won its early season lead in the field events and the hurdles. Firsts were won by Don King, high hurdles, 16Q Don Bleth, 440 yd. run, 55.93 Bill Hamman, low hurdles, 24.65 Don Wardrop, shot put, 42' 6 3 George Stecher, pole vault, 10' 6 3 and a three way tie for first in the high jump by Bob Taylor, Tracy King and Jim Rhodes, 5' 7 . April 12, here. Vancouver, 83W3 Battle Ground, 253 State School, 175. The Trappers won their second straight meet, placing well in all events. Outstanding were Bill Hamman's 24.1 on the low hurdles and Eugene Perry's 10.3 on the 100 yd. dash. Other Vancouver firsts were Don King, high hurdles, 16Q Chuck Harris, mile, 41583 Bob Buker, 880 yd. run, 2:08.53 Don Wardrop, discus, 122'3 Don Scott, broad jump, 19' 2 3 Erwin Miller, Don Bleth, Jim Walling, and Eugene Perry in the 880 relay, and a tie between Tracy King and Bob Taylor, high jump, 62 April 16, Centralia Relays. Vancouver was able to take only fifth place at the Centralia Relays this year with 17 points. The first four places were taken by Centralia, 3453 Renton, 26, Lakeside, 22 3 Bellarmine, 19. Erwin Miller earned the only first place for the Trappers in the junior 100-yd. dash at 10.8. Seconds were taken in the 2 mile relay and a tie by Tracy King and Bob Taylor in the high jump. April 22, at Jefferson, Portland. Vancouver, 86VzQ Wash- ington, 28VZ3 Jefferson, 14. The Trappers gained an easy vic- tory, for both Jefferson and Washington were weakened by holding men out for the Hayward Relays, A great many firsts were obtained by Tracy King, high hurdles, 15.83 Eugene Perry, 100-yd. dash, 10.63 Bob Buker, mile, 5:01.63 Jim Wal- ling, 440 yd. run, 56.13 Bill Hamman, low hurdles, 253 Stan Green, 220 yd. dash, 23.93 Bob Miller, 880 yd. run, 2:10, Bob Herb, tie in the pole vault, 10'6 3 Jim Rhodes, Tracy King, and Bob Taylor, three way tie for first in the high jump, 5'6 3 Dog King, Bob Gladson, Eugene Perry, Erwin Miller, 880 relay, 1:3 .8.
