While strolling around killing time, we oame upon an enticing sign, Madam X, Fortune teller . Being of a cu- rious nature, we decided to have our future lives looked into. Florian, our leader, went in first to investigate any possible foul play. He came out grinning because the verdict was very Dleaslng to him. In fif- teen years, time was to find Florian, after considering a career with MGM, settled down as a noted lawyer in Hollywood and living in one of those rambling type houses. The Madam declared that a chic blond was standing in the doorway. (Could this be his wife or one of hie many maids?) Cotton, very enthuslstic over Florian1s future, decided to give it a try. When he returned we gathered around him, anxious to hear what he had to say. The crystal ball revealed Joyce seated on a bright red tractor, breaking ground on his large north Mississippi delta farm. There, too, were seen several little Mitchells vexy busily helping their father. Joyce, true to his nature of holding more Jobs than one, was the coach of a near- by football team, we can Just hear Joyce saying, I'm really puttin' them ooys through! Roberta marched in third. She stayed longer than the boys, probably argu- ing over her fate. This was her report. Giving up dancing classes long since, she had settled in Oregon with Billy, who was foreman of one of the largest lumber companies in that state. Their beautiful home was on a quiet lake, but the quietness was often disturbed by their energetic twine, Caralyn and Jairlyn. Nelda's turn was next. Madam X predicted that Nelda would be one of the leading dress designers in New York, but while Nelda was contemplating a brilliant career, a tall, handsome guy popped up right in the middle of the crystal ball.' We wonder what he'll have to say about her career—will it be designing or house keeping? Bee, although not thoroughly believing in fortune tellers, went in to com- plete the picture of the future of the seniors. In a white uniform, 6he had Just resigned her position as superintendent of nurses at Mobile In- firmary and was taking up surgery. The head surgeon was a red-headed man, and we wonder what that had to do with it, knowing her weakness along that line. The train whistle blew, interrupting our dreams of the future. There was a scramble in boarding the train for home-at the end of a perfeot day. 9 I ! flj I i i I 1. 2. 3. We, the seniors. Bee. FloriAn. 13. Conference. 14. Late? 15. Nelda and Merl 4. Nelda. 16. CREED I believe in the future of farming, with a faith born not of words but of deeds—achievements won by the present and past generations of farmers; ir. the promise of better days through better ways, even as the better things we now enjoy have come up to us from the struggles of former years. I believe that to live and work on a good farm Is pleasant as well as challenging; for I know the Joys and discomforts of farm life and hold ar. Inborn fondness for those associations which, even In hours of dlscoursge- ment, I cannot deny. I believe in leadership from ourselves and respect from others. I believe In my own ability to work efficiently and think clearly, with such know- ledge and skill as I can secure, and in the ability of organised farmer- to serve our own and the public Interest In marketing the nroduct of our toll. I believe we can safeguard those rights against practises and poli- cies that are unfair. I believe In less dependence on begging and more power in bargaining; i: the life abundant and enough honest wealth to help make It so—for other? as well as myself; in less need for charity and more of it when needed;! being happy myself and playing square with those whose happiness depende upon me. I believe that rural America can ana will hold true to the best tradi- tions in our national life and that I can exert an influence in my home and community which will stand solid for my part in that inspiring task. 26 Left to right: Wade O'Neal, Lloyd Roberts, Van Rooerts, Bobby Moe, Vester Touchstone, Tom Delancey, Myron Tillman, Kirby Brown, Dan Havens.
