'N Sprung Sports A large variety of sports is offered to the students of our High School. In the fall each class has a soccer team. Because of unfavorable weather conditions the entire schedule was not completed this year. The Senior team was the only team to win all the games they played. Immediately after the close of the basketball season volleyball was started. Nine teams competed in an elimination-consolation tournament. The team composed of the G. A. A. Cabinet won, and the Capering Conwells were runners-up. The baseball season was very interesting. Eight teams, each with the name of one of the teams in the National League played a round-robin tournament. Although deck tennis is a game which was taught here for the first time this year, much interest has been displayed. It promises to be much more popular in the future. A field meet was held for all those who wished to participate in track or field events. Each girl must be complimented on the fine way in which she observed the rules of good sportsmanship and cooperated with the managers, the coach, and members of her team. Girls' Gym Work Under the splendid instructions of our physical education teacher, the girls have spent a very profitable year. In the fall the fundamentals of soccer were taught. This consisted mainly of dribbling, passing and tackling. Intramural basketball was enlivened by the splendid coaching on passing, guarding, and shooting which was given in class. The excellent way of giving fundamentals of baseball and volleyball has helped greatly in getting more girls to participate in these intramural sports. Deck tennis was a new sport here this year. Although none of us have mastered the game as yet, we promise to give much more competition in the future. Excellent form for track was gained in the coaching given by Miss Smith. In order not to lay too much stress on sports, much of the time was spent in giving gym- nastics. These were for correcting any defects which were to be found in the physiques oi the girls. Much good has been derived and we give the credit to Miss Smith for the fine instruction she has given. Tumbling Team Melieddic. Mohler. Jerome. Friesner. Hawk. Bender. Griftis. Blake. Haines. The tumbling class was a special gym class which met on Mondays and VVednesdays during the activity period. Owing to the fact that this team is newly organized they have done nothing but practice this year. Since there were no Seniors on this team all will be back and he able to give a good exhibition next year. Ilere's wishing them luck! Pnffw T7UFIlf.Ij-f'l'f9

ORGANIZATIONS Washingtonis military activities were di- vided inio three diferent periods: C1 Q Expedi- tion into the Ohio valleyg KQQ Participation in the French and Indian Warp f3j Leadership during the American Revolution. The contest for the Ohio valley introduced George Washington on the stage of American history. He was then 21 years of age, familiar with the Indians and woodcraft and already noted for his courage and sound judgment. For these reasons he, was intrusted with a message to remonstrate with the French against occupy- ing English territory. - He was the bravest spirit at the frightful de- feat of Braddock in 1755. His eafperience in our Revolution is too well known to be told.
