ATHLETICS In spite of some traditions which would take George Washington out of the role of athletics he possessed a strong vigorousbodg. His father impressed upon him the importance of ewercise and he developed a love for all games. He was a leader in all sports, such as vaulting, running, jumping and pitching quoits. He also excelled in horsemanship, breaking his own horses and training them thoroughly. He trained his own hunting dogs and was very fond of the chase. He is described as a bold and fearless rider though it is said that it was the horsemanship rather than the hunt which appealed to him.
