This year the job went better than ever, due to the enthusiasm and hard work ofthe students. The bus ride started the exciting tempo, with a rough ride through the draw. '1 A 12 f I Freshman Day Is a Blast The Seniors got their revenge after four years, and the newest members in High School got initiated into the school tivities. Everyone enjoyed the crazy games, even though most Seniors and a few Freshmen still longed for the old days hen paddles were used, and when goop was applied to many a Freshman. 13 Homecoming '78', Full of Excitement ABOVE-The VHHS football team sits peacefully while watching the pep rally. RIGHT-Homecoming Queen D'Andra Wanslow and her escort David Watson pose for their picture cheerfully. OPPOSITE PAGE-The Eagle bonfire was built by students of VHHS. Cathy Aumiller and escort Eddie Nunez pose for a picture. 1 7 W Homecoming Parade Showcases Eagle elebrities Among all of the activities that come with Homecoming, the parade we had was one of the best. The beautiful duchesses and their escorts were honored and given the chance to ride high in the parade. The parade started next to Mathis Texaco and ended down near the Ramada Inn. At the pep rally at school students showed the high spirit and really yelled. Many people had sore throats from all the yelling and screaming. RIGHT-Junior Duchess, Beth Conoly and escort Mal Thomas. LEFT-Coach Walker talks over game plan with Freddie Lujan. 21 During the days of Homecoming, the Band selected their Sweetheart to represent them. Cres Talley was the honored girl this year. Although we tied, all the Sweethearts enjoyed the music and dancing at the Homecoming dance. Music was provided by a disco outfit from El Paso. 22 V. H. H. . Band Sweetheart FFA Sweetheart l WY, , The F. F. A. Sweetheart is also selected during Homecoming. One girl is selected by the members of the F. F. A. to represent them as the sweetheart. This year the honor went to a very sweet girl, Janice Lewis. 23 Matias Azarte was chosen Chief Cook by the FHA for his great person- ality, his kind friendship and most of all his cooking he did in FHA. He is escorted by Gracie Santiago who was very active in many organizations and very friendly. Not only is Alana a very sweet girl she also is a cheerleader and has done a lot for the spirit in Van Horn High School. Levi Garlick had the honor of escorting her to the game. BELOW RIGHT Freshman Duchess Rosa Hinojos and escort Margarito Urias. Rosa was chosen for her attractive personality, her terrific smile, and sweet disposition. Jail was the title for the One Act The Night Thoreau Spent in Play. The story was set in Concord, I Massachusetts, during the late l84O's. f 5 It was a time darkened by the war it with Mexico and the eminent threats 5 f of civil war. A L A The play starts as the time span of a single night, in which Henry David Thoreau spends injail for not paying his tr which was played by Karl Downing. Karl Dowing Henry David Thoreau at age 29 finds out by Floyd Mullens, as sheriff Sam Staples, that his aunt, Cindy Rattay, as Ellen, has paid his taxes. 29 Eddie Nunez and his friend show off their muscles.
