PHIHCIPHL PRINCIPAL, MR. HICKS B. DOW To the Class of 1947: The Class of '47 numbers seventeen members, each one a different and distinct individual. Each has his or her own particular abilities, interests, skills, goals and attitudes. All of these attributes are, of necessity very important, but of them the last two will play a major role in the decades ahead in determining the lcind and calibre of citizens we aspire to be. Let us hold forth as one goal a happy, fruitful life, a life we are willing to spend in the ser- vice and betterment of others. There is no more certain way to happiness. Let us 'polish' our objectives with wholesome attitudes, attitudes that will lead us to appre- ciate the will and rights of others--that will cause us to take the big and not the petty view- -that will magnify ourselves to the point where we will always champion the right at any cost--that will mark us for our humility, patience, tolerance and sympathy. These are the forces and fac- tors that will point to the sunrise for which a weary world is waiting. Take your steadfast places as part of this great movement. And now farewell, and happi- ness and success. May God bless each one of you. ' Sincerely yours, 60Tuff HICKS B. DOW 5
