Southern livin' All it takes is a cowboy hat, boots and Willie Nelson! Fashion trendsetters? When the new fad of blue jeans and cowboy snap shirts cornered the fashion market, it caused no real dramatic change in the local look. I grew up on the farm, so I've always worn boots, jeans, flannel shirts and my cowboy hat. It's a natural, Senior Mitzi LaRue voiced, echoing the sentiments of many students whose real style has been country even when country wasn't cool. Without purchasing a single new piece of clothing, students miraculously transformed from country hicks into urban cowboys and girls. I love the western look and always have, it's comfortable and gives a neat, clean appearancef, Senior Scott McBrayer said. Differences between the urban and the real cowboy surfaced in the ring around the pocket from tobacco cans and the frayed ends of the boot style cut. And disadvantages have resulted from the fad. Prices soared with the claim to fame by the western move-V ment. Jeans increased from reasonable to astronomical as 1980 boots of S60 hit a record high of nearly S120 for that same pair two years later. wealth
