Stationery notes bring piano to music From year to year things change. For the VBHS music department there was plenty of variety in the 1977-78 school year. The grand addition this year was the new Baby Grand K. Kawai piano. The piano is baby blue and cost S3850 dollars. To raise money for the piano and other expenses, the music classes had three money-makers. First they sold stationery products which brought in around S800 dollars. Another project conducted by the choirs annually was the selling of Texas Manor Fruit Cakes. Both business ex- peditions were held in the fall. The yearly fall variety show was really starlike. The theme was Star Wars . More students than ever before were involved in the performance. The show is known as Season's Vibrations, and the music depart- ment raised approximately S50O dollars from morning and night performances on Oct. 6. The music students raised a total of 31,300 on all three projects. They paid 31,200 dollars on the new piano and the school paid the balance. The music depart- ment will gradually pay back the difference to the school. As every year the Sophomore Girls' Glee Club, Junior-Senior Girls' Glee Club and the Mixed Chorus participated in region festivities. This year the performances were held in Fayetteville at the University of Arkansas. The festival was held on March 3. The singers also participated in the state festival, on April 6, at the University of Central Arkansas. Music classes bring opportunities for individual achievements. Nov. 12, All- Begion tryouts were held at Fayetteville High School. With hard work and determina- tion, VBHS placed eight choral music students out of twenty-One, representing our school. The All-Region choir members are seniors, Sarah Hays, Shelia English, Becky Noel, Clayton French and Linda Wilburn, juniors Jeana Parrish and Tony Kendig. Julie French was the only sophomore contender. All-Region choir was held Jan. 2 at Arkansas Tech in Russellville. Students to try out for All-State were Sarah Hays, Shelia English, Becky Noel, Clayton French and Tony Kendig. Tryouts were held at the University of Central Arkansas in Conway on Feb. 3 and 4. The following week on February 16, through 18, State Choir was held for those who were selected. The Treblettes had a very busy year. They had many engagements ranging from church singing to competition at All-Region Choir. They practiced many long hours to bring forth the harmonious sounds.
