This year's homecoming activities were very special A car decorating contest was sponsored by the cheerleaders and the winner was Jay Lightfoot. The annual bonfire and pep rally was canceled this year due to rain. The rain may have dampened the wood, but school spirit was alive and everyone was ready for the game between these two rival towns. The cheerleaders had 600 balloons, blue and white, that were released by the fans at various times during the game! The student body elected four candidates for queen. They were Seniors Melanie Hynds, Kim Lof-tice, Laurie Ruiz, and Greta Myers. These young ladies were escorted onto the field by their fathers Mike Hynds, Alfred Loftice, Tony Ruiz, and Grandfather, Weston McCoy. The students of VAHS chose Melanie Hynds as the 1984-85 Homecoming Queen. DeVera Lynch, the 1983-84 Homecoming Queen, crowned her successor. The Queen was presented a crown and a bouquet of red roses. The other candidates all received a single red rose. After the crowning, the Queen and her court were driven around the field by Eric Salmon in his 1969 convertible Camaro. Over all, the 1984 homecoming was a great night despite our defeat by the Anna Coyotes. The final score was 13-14. The homecoming dance was held immediately following the game at the high school student center. This dance was sponsored by the student council. The music was presented by Sound and Light Unlimited. It consisted of many songs to dance by and the music videos to watch. It was a great dance!
