“FOREWORD Every high school graduate has at some time or another made the statement: “One’s high school days are the best days of his life. From the standpoint of preparing oneself for life, learning how to live and how to make a living, associating democratically with one’s fellow-men, being able to project oneself wholeheartedly and without restraint into whatever that may arise, in short, being able to live life to its fullest and thrill with the sheer joy of such living, the statement is undoubtedly true. But actually, just how much does one remember of his high school days ? A relatively few short years so cloud the memory of even this important period as to make a person value and appreciate a reminder, or a measuring stick with which to check and compare thoughts of the past. This little book, THE PANTHER of 1948, is created in the hope that it will be just such a reminder and measuring stick. Believing that individuals of this present day are “picture minded”, that they enjoy looking at pictures more than interpreting the printed page, an effort has been made to include a picture of every student and everyone connected in any way with our school, as well as to give a sketchy history of this 1947-48 school year. The extent to which we have succeeded is a tribute to the cooperation given by everyone upon whom we have called to help us in any way. We wish to thank especially the members of the faculty for their cooperation in supplying pictures, certain “amateur photographers among our student body for valuable assistance, Mr. Carl Turner for making our group pictures, the Jerry Boren Studio for courteous service, and above all, the progressive citizens of our community who by their advertising made the existence of this annual a reality. If, when you inspect your copy of this annual, you do so with a feeling of satisfaction and can murmur an unreserved “not bad,” we shall feel that our efforts have been crowned with success. That the pages may hold for you now, and in the future, nothing but pleasant memories is our sincere wish. THE STAFF
