Schoenbeck. ttOne of the very pleasant things about friendship, according to writer Faith Baldwin, ttare the do-you-remember moments. Each of the 61 Kappas shared the ups and downs of the semester relaxing in the CR or laughing over funny moments. We checked the school doldrums with popcorn parties, and winning the sectional volleyball tournament. Since the 1961 initiation of Kappa Psi Omega, we have valued interaction with our honoraries and faculty fathers. We enjoyed a Kappa donut fondue, formals, and the traditional Christmas tree- trimming party. For Homecoming, we won 2nd place with our float theme and we shared the joy of having three queen candidates. Friendship, to the Kappas, means reaching out. Benje, became the sorority's sponsored child, through contact with the Lutheran Social Services. Perhaps the warmest moments of the year were those of Christ- mas. Candlelight caroling practices brought wishes of Kappa love to everyone. With bailoting night, began a hard-won pledge program including Saturday service projects and annual Easter egg hunt. Pledges responded to lessons about our symbol of the star and our colors of aqua and white by stealing the composite. Seniors added to the pledge pranks and planned many senior meetings after Good Times. A warm embrace, passing a green pig or suspense of passinga mum, measure friendship and unity. Kappa Love is anyone and anything at all thatts loved by you. 173 KAPPA TAU ZETA Row 1: Janis Cades, Susan Kozar, Susan Eckhardt, Debar Ruth Anne Geutes, Diane Liebbe. Bobbie Jo Hibbs. Since that time our motto and guiding goal has been, HSeek, sincerity, truth, and honor. Together and individually we have strived to obtain this goal. Our colors are blue and yellow. They along with our flower, the red rose, are symbolizing friendship and true sisterhood in our soror- ity. Our activities range from money-making projects to service pro- jects to social events. Each year we hold several weekend carwashes. This past fall we sponsored a carwash for muscular dystrophy. To further add to our funds we sell candy and stationary. Our latest seller is the UChi Hot Pretzel. These projects provide us with funds for various good times . We have the traditional keggers, Fasel runs, and activities for the Chis and their dates, including a hayride and bonfire. Right before Christmas we have our annual HChi Christmas Party. After the dorm Christmas sing and fraternity caroling, we gather 'round our tree to exchange homemade gifts and sing. Our big social event is our spring formal in May. We have dinner and later on, dancing at one of the restaurants around Valpo. Our formal is complete with its fire-up and a Dunes picnic the next day. All in all, Chi Sigma Xi is a very cherished part in the lives of all its members. DELTA THETA PHI The start of the 74-75 school year saw Delta Theta Phi somewhat short in man-power, but full to overflowing with a unified spirit of brotherhood that has pulled us together in the true sense of fraternity life. Fall clean-up was accomplished quickly and easily thanks to the excellent leadership of Housemaster Tom Fiiege and the Executive Board led by Dean Glenn Henrik- son. The brothers made the work go easier by chipping in for our first keg of the year. High hopes were held for our sports program, but injuries to key personnel prevented anything higher than third place finishes in both football and soccer. The football team was led by Mark Kline with seven touchdowns in the five game schedule and the soccer team was paced by forward Mark Mahoney and goalie Tom Paulus. Social Chairman Jim Kunz and Rush Chairman Keith Forsyth combined their programs to come up with some really outstanding parties that have never failed to pro- duce an excellent time for all those participating. The highlight of the year, as always, was the pajama party with its infamous Wompadoodle. This solid group of 18 men and an outstanding pledge class have set out to make this year one of the best in fraternity history and are accomplishing our goal more and more as the year goes on. Because of this we expect to see all our graduates in the top headline stories Uike longest hangover, most all-night- ers in one week, Eth. As far as athletics go, we like to say we are building for the future. Our parties, although we're not capable tin size or rooml of giving aIl-campus keggers, provide plenty of good times. We initiated 11 new little sisses who helped us collect over $280 for UNICEF on Halloween. Our Homecoming antics amounted to first place for best float with the Gamma Phis in the Fraternity-sorority division. 185 186 THETA CHI Row 1: Bernie Bolka. The assembly of alumni and current members at the banquet celebrating this event reaffirmed one idea: each brother is a unique individual, but each shares in a bond of honest friendship. It is this idea that the brothers of Lambda Chi Alpha attempt to affirm daily. As can be expected in a fraternity that emphasizes individuality, there are conflicts. But time and time again e in the barroom, at intermurai events, at all- house clean- ups - the spirit of fraternity reasserts itself. We take pride in our fraternity and the spirit of friendship that the letters Lambda Chi Alpha symbolize. It is this spirit that the Brothers attempt to culti- vate among themselves each day. It is this spirit that many Lambda Chis endeavor to extend to all men. 187 188 Epsilon Beta chapter of PI KAPPA ALPHA fraternity was founded in 1953. Today, having an active member- ship of 64, the house in its majestic splendor stands at 808 Mound Street. With a sledding hill, bonfire area, and basketball court, the house is unrivalled in opportunities for a well rounded environment. Perennially having one of the best all mens scho- lastic averages, the Pike house offers a strong academ- ic setting. Frequently, brothers have been involved in extracurricular student organizations such as Student Senate and WVUR-FM radio station. Strong in athletics, the house has always been in contention for the all- sports award. Being a socially oriented fraternity, an active social life is highlighted by the Barn and Casino parties. In between these two annual events, we have fraternity-sorority parties. Not to be an exception to a national tradition, Epsilon Beta is the proud owner of a firetruck. Used for parades, sporting events, and campus rides, the firetruck stands as a symbol of the strong brotherhood that is Epsilon Beta. Pl KAPPA ALPHA Row 1: B. Stevens, R. Jante, J. P. Ehlers, L. SIGMA PHI EPSILON - gem 3. Indiana Zeta chapter of Sigma Phi Epsilon was chartered in 1956 having its original residence in the houses at 503 and 505 Lincolnway. We moved into our current Mound street residence in 1969 and have built our house into one of the most diversified and achievement oriented houses on this university's campus. This years officers were: Win Winter, president; Gary Marowske, corresponding secretary; Bob Clark, historian; and John List, recording secretary. Sig Ep is, of course, a social fraternity and our nu- merous parties have quite a reputation for being the best around. Last homecoming we welcomed over eighty alumni, one of which is presently the new Dean of Men, Bob Schroer. Our substantial social budget allows us these many band parties, but our range of activities also range out to many fund-raising events for charity. The Sig Eps have do- nated blood for leukemia victims, raised money forthe heart fund and retarded children and this year we planned Sig Ep Weekend, one loaded with activities and events including a basketball game, all campus party and pizza sale with the entire proceeds going to the Multiple Sclerosis Society. Our brothers represent every college in the university and nearly every major. Our backgrounds are varied, some of us are athletes, some scholars, some musicians, but we are all individuals with varied interests, values and views. However, we are united in friendship with one great common goal - that of BROTHERHOOD! As another school year becomes a memory, so does a progressive year for Tau Kappa Epsilon. During these short years, we strive to broaden an individual's val- ues by including in his own viewpoints, those of oth- ers. Unity in diversity molds many talents and tem- peraments into common interests. Thus our consistency is not of a stereotype, but of varied components com- prising representations which we hope has left a favor- able impression with fellow students and the faculty. Our constant goals - service, high social and academic standards, and the full development of indi- vidual worth and character - continue the enrichment of our fraternal bond. Memorable events highlighting the year include the annual funeral party in October, a house trip to an Elton John concert, the annual ski weekend and our two formals. Housing improvements and service projects kept the Tekes busy. Several house members plan to attend the international convention of Tau Kappa Epsilon in August of 1975. 193 194 Row 1: G. Plimton, P. This year the Phis have been busy around the house with house improvement pro- jects. New furniture in the living room and T.V. room, a new barroom and a patio were some of the projects undertaken this year. lntermural sports have always been an important aspect of the fraternity. This year was no exception as the Phis cap- tured the University Championship in football, were runners- up in volleyball and soccer and the prospects look good for the remainder of the sports year. The Phis have always been leaders in varsity athletics at Valpo. This year seven brothers played varsity football. We had one golfer, two swimmers, two basketball players and seven played baseball. Some of the big social events of the year are the annual Homecoming party in which several hundred pounds of brats were eaten and many kegs of beer consumed. The highlight of Home- coming this year was having Brother Rich ttCrazy Conti elected Homecoming King. Once again the Hmorality march took place late one evening on Homecoming weekend. The annual Christmas party with our rushees was a tremendously good time. The brothers are looking forward to seeing what kind of PhiKeia party will be devised by the new PhiKeias. Pinball took over at the Phi Delt house this year. Many hours of study time were put in at the pinball machines. Brother Joel Rod Oberman was the undisputed pinball wizard of the year. Cover design is the work of a VU student. The bold letters depict a constant influx of stu- dents embraced by a resident campus community. The University's service and influence are signified by the same initials relfected above and extending unconfined into the world. The Triune God is centrally represented by triangles, one indicating that wisdom begins with the fear of the Lord and the other pointing God's people to live their faith wherever they go and whatever they do. Together these form a diamond of hope and expectation focused on a torch, recalling the University motto: In thy light we see light. tPs. 36,9t 288 What exactly is VU? No one has the complete answer o . o VU is a whole made of countless little part$-Maybe we've hit upon some of the little parts that mean VU to you - maybe our ideas are not at all close to your con- ceptions. Everyone experiences some- thing different . .. hopefully some of your important experiences are close to the ideas we've put down on these pages. A
