Classes continued regardless of changes in location, educa- tional equipment, professors, and students. Educational requirements stiffened: business majors learned more than typing, home economics majors learned more than cooking. Labs kept pace with the growth of science over the years by undergoing continual facelifts, Uniforms for physical educa- tion classes changed, yet they were still required. Engineer- ing students gained practical experience by actually plan- ning and constructing their own engineering building in 1948. Other new buildings were built on New Campus, and when necessary facilities were not available on campus, some classes were located in other cities. Nursing students studied and worked in hospitals in Cleveland and St. Louis, Throughout the years, the university continued to expand its academic opportunities for its students.
