After fraternity and sorority alumni parties Fri- day night and Saturday morning, Lincolnway Ave- nue set the scene for the Homecoming parade. Crepe paper floats adorned with Valpo beauties filed past hundreds of viewers. The judges awarded first place to the Tau Kappa Epsilon and Alpha Phi Delta sorority floats. At the game in the afternoon the crowds of Valpo fans filled the stands to watch our Crusaders' victory. The fans with brown and gold mums and pompoms resounded with cheers of joy. 25

omecomin Because Valparaiso students want to make a warm and memorable welcome to their alumni, 1962 Homecoming activities galore were planned. lVeeks of preparation succeeded in planning events that familiarized alumni with present Valpo life and re- newed acquaintances with their own Valpo life. The weekends activities began Friday morning, as is the tradition, with the playing of the roving German Band, which signaled the end of classes and the arrival of the alumni. All afternoon, fraternities, sororities, and dormitories competed in the cheer contest. In this way, enthusiasm for Saturdayls foot- ball game reached its peak among the students and spirited the team. Lambda Chi and Alpha Phi Delta won first place in the men's and women's competi- tion. Folk singers Peter, Paul, and Mary provided bril- liant entertainment to a full house Friday night. Following the concert Queen Gail Pitkanen received her crown, and Lembke and Sigma Tau received first place awards for dormitory and house decora- tions.

Action continued even at half-time as our western homecoming theme was portrayed by the band's music and formations of guns, bows, and arrows and by the Crusaderettes' marching. The victorious crowd celebrated Saturday night at the all-school dance in the Union and the alumni dance at the armory. Sunday afternoon final views of the house and dorm decorations and tours of the dormitories were made as alumni and students ended their week- end, relishing the memories that were not soon to be forgotten.
