OMECOMING l960 Lovely Carol Lynn Koeneman, Valparaiso Univer- sity's 1960 Homecoming Queen. Carol Lynn, whose home is in Fort Wayne, Ind., is a sophomore majoring in elementary education. Homecoming 1960 featured sev- eral innovations . . . a mass yelling contest among Greeks and dormitories on the lawn of Kroencke hall Friday afternoon . . . an all-campus carnival, attractions ranging from a kissing booth to ring-toss with live ducks as prizes . . . the traditional coronation ceremonies, starring O. P., in a new setting, the terrace of the Moellering Memorial Library . . . and, as a fitting climax to the evening, the spectacular fireworks display illuminating the skies east of the Chapel. Campaigning and enjoying it, the Young Republicans' colorful float features Minerva, goddess of wisdom, and the traditional elephant. Homecoming officially begins as the traditional German Band calls students from classes to the week-end whirl of activities

,4 is L Our respected President, Dr. O. P. Kretzmann, surveys the V U-DePauw game with a commanding eye from a vantage point among determined varsity players. The Crusaders emerged victorious, edging out the Tigers by a seven to six margin. Float decorations were constructed around the general theme of mythology. The Saturday morning parade, consisting of 64 units, featured ll bands and 26 floats. Top honors in float and house decorations, announced during halftime of the game, went to Alpha Phi Delta, Sigma Pi, Gamma Phi, and Sigma Phi Epsilon . . . winners of dormitory competition were Lembke, Guild, and Dodge halls. Homecoming weekend was brought to a close Sunday morning, as President Kretz- man dedicated the cornerstone of the Memorial Chapel preceding the annual Alumni service. VaIpo's Marching Crusaders, led by high- strutting Stu Richter, stage a half-time spectacular for the crowd. The Alpha Xi's Smear 'Em booth attracts eager jello hurlers, amusing everyone except the unlucky human target. Queen Carol Lynn and her court display a lively interest as they watch the VU-DePauw game from their royal box. l
