The university life is a rich, full life. The student who enters Valparaiso University en- counters a new life with three main aspects: the spiritual, the social, and the academic. Although it is up to the initiative of each in- dividual to utilize the opportunities afforded to him, Valpo provides a rich source of growth in all three facets of the university life. The spiritual life is centered around the Memorial Chapel, standing at the highest point on the University campus. Services each Monday through Friday, as well as the Sun- day service, allow the Valpo student to par- ticipate in periods of reverence and worship in the midst of his busy and sometimes hectic schedule. Social life abounds wherever Valpo stu- dents gather. The Student Union is provided for just such gatherings. The Union boasts a game room, bowling alley, cafeteria and snack bar, plus a large lounge. The offices of the Student Council, publications, and other stu- dent serviccs are housed in the Union. Meet- ing rooms of various sizes for any group clearly distinguish the Union as being the hub of V. U. social activities. Academic life surrounds the Valpo student's very existence. To gain an education is the primary reason for his enrollment. The new Moellering Memorial Library stands as a guide for this existence. An up-to-date periodical room and improved reference ma- terial augment thc vital book Hstacksw and study rooms necessary for the pursuit of higher learning. This is the life of Valpo.

The Crucifix cn the altar. The main entrance The Memorial Chapel-Auditorium stands as the focal point of the U niversity. Visible to motorists on U.S. Highway 30, this impressive building exemplifies the fact that Valpo is a church-founded school. To students, the structure presents a stabilizing effect for the every-day routine of campus living. ln addition to the week-day and Sunday services, the Chapel is the scene of other religious services, especially at the Christmas and Easter seasons. This year saw the addition of landscaping and the devotional walk to the entrance of the Chapel. These im- provements were a gift of the Valparaiso Guild. The Cornerstone, dedicated in the fall of l96O, reiter- ates the basis of both the building and the spiritual life at Valpo: Jesus Christ Himself the Chief Cornerstone.
