Words are all too weak to try to express what constitutes the way of life of a university, for a university is not bricks and stones and glass, but it is living, breathing people, with their plans and dreams being shaped C or shatteredj by the day-to-day interweavings of personalities and incidents. This Centennial year of 1959 has seen the plans and dreams of the founding fathers of Valparaiso University far surpassed and magnified. Hardly did they imagine that their one-building, pay as you go college would become the unique university that it is today. The Memorial Chapel, which stands in the very center of East Campus, represents the Christ-centered education for which the faithful body of Lutheran laymen in 1925 were striving. The laymen wanted a Liberal Arts college with a Christ-centered education and way of life among its faculty and student body. This is what exists at our university today. Like a thousand other American schools Valpo means research and finalsg serenades and rush parties, and letters and packages from home. But we at Valpo think our life is garnished with just a little bit more. It means dinners and coffee hours with professors, daily chapel on The Hill, vespers in the dorm after hours, O. P. singing Hail to the Brown and Gold with a clown leaning on his shoulder, the Hi's! on campus, and do-it-yourself meal plans. These and a thousand and one things more-things tangible and intangible- con- stitute Valpo's Way of Life. VAIJPARAISO UNIVERSITY VAIJPARAISO INDIANA
