Smaller but 5in :pecMmIM, 11M bonfire war one of the highlight; of Ike weekendt 0 PK; mmmzl tarivilege Homecoming Fertiyitier Homecoming 1957 proved once again that Valpo student spirit is hard to stifle. Approximately one- fourth of the campus population was in bed with the flu. The Hobo Parade and Stunt Night were cancelled by President 0. P. Kretzman; all activities and meetings were curtailed during the week after Homecoming to help us recuperate. Nevertheless, the students were determined not to disappoint all the Visitors and alumni. All the other ac- tivities were carried out as planned. Homecoming began officially on Friday evening with the crowning of Beverly Manzelmann as 1957 Homecoming Queen. After the bonfire had been lit, everyone realized that this particular tradition was dying. We appreciated the bonfire more this year because it may have been out last. Can we find another tradition to replace it? The rest of the activities followed in rapid succession-ethe paarde, the Homecoming game with Butler, and the Presidents reception for alumni and seniors. One might add that the presence of the alumni raised our spirits considerably. Despite the unfortunate circumstances which $ur- rounded Homecoming 1957, the student spirit gen erated that needed spark that made it one of the most memorable.
