“Seniors, seniors, full of fun, we’re the class of ’61!” yell senior girls at Homecoming skit. The height of excitement came again to VHS in a never-to-be-forgotten Homecoming, Septem- ber 30, 1960. Included in the afternoon pep session was a hilarious skit given by the senior girls portraying their “perfect” Homecoming. That night the Vikings fought valiantly against Rensselaer. Sitting in white convertibles, the Homecoming court watched our team whip the Bombers 35-13. Victory was followed by a de- lightful evening of dancing during which the Student Council president. Curt Bush, an- nounced the seven girls on the court and their escorts. First to approach the throne on the arm of her escorts was Sharyl Stoltz, followed by Janet Eckert, Pat Wagner, Diane DeGrazia, and Mimi Fitzgerald. Next in the spotlight was the runner-up, Olivia Wallace, followed by the crownbearer, Sandy Sweet, and the scepterbear- er, Curt Corneil. At last, Marcia Koepke, our Queen for 1960, was escorted to the throne. She was crowned— and kissed— by the football co- captains, Keith Stanton and Ken Dowd. The lovely Queen’s dance brought an end to our 1960 Homecoming. Overcome with joy, Marcia Koepke receives the Queen’s roses from Miss Margie Nelson signifying her beginning reign as 1960 Homecoming Queen. 18
