Our Able Faculty “Very very good! exclaims Miss Black as she grades one of her freshman English student’s pa- pers. “Papers and more papers!” says Mrs. Bowman, who teaches Eng- lish 1 8c 2, 3 8c 4. “Schmoid!” Mr. Brown explains the paper wad as “Schmoid” to his 7 , 8 Senior English classes.

Mr. James Mundy, the assist- ant principal, aids Mr. Telle in the solution of administrative problems and has complete charge of attendance. Another of his duties is to keep track of the lockers and their combina- tions. Mr. Mundy is the spon- sor of the Student Council. He also directs the hall monitors. He received his B.S. and M.A. from Ball State Teachers Col- lege. His secretaries are (from left to right): Mrs. Tofte, S. But- terfield, H. Oliver, C. Binder, D. Dierson, B. Bolles, A. Swihart, (seated) S. Kline, I. Zeman. Mr. Henkel, director of the guidance department, acts as an advisor to the students by helping them plan their educa- tional program. Each year he interviews each student to find out his interests and abilities. By using the results of tests and the information gathered from personal interviews, he advises the students in their vo- cational selection. Mr. Henkel al- so collects information from col- lege and universities through- out the country, which is avail- able to all. Mr. Henkel received his A.B. from Valparaiso Uni- versity and his M.A. from North- western University. His secre- taries are (from left to right): Mrs. Tofte, C. Stevens, B. Kuehl, P. Powell, P. Mrs. Conkling has “Great Ex- pectations” for her freshman English students. “Do your stuff” is a famous quo- tation at V.H.S. of Mr. Conkling. He teaches English 3 8: 4, 5 8: 6. “El tu, Grume?” And you too will study “Caesar” if you have Mr. Crum for English 4. In Urging Us On “Schweigen Sie, bitte!” means, “Now class” in Mr. Hummel’s German 1 8: 2 class. Mr. Hum- mel also teaches English 5 : 6. “On your mark, get set, go!” In addition to Personal Typing and Typing 1, Mr. Rump teaches General Business and Business English. “See, English CA : be fun.” Miss Shauer teaches English 1 2, 3 8: 4. 17
