O O KING TELLE The Principal of Valparaiso High School, Mr. King Telle, had the big responsibility of making many de- cisions during the past year. With his keen sense of humor and his loyal school spirit he made V.H.S. run smoothly. I-le was known for his exuberance at pep sections and his cheering inspired our cheer, One More Blast! Mr. Telle began his career at V.H.S. with an A.B. from Hanover College and an M.S. from Indiana University. ALFRED HENKEL and JAMES MUNDY This past year Mr. Alfred Henkel's job as guidance director was the largest it has ever been. He took care ofall the students' schedules, helped the seniors decide their future plans, worked out the four year program for each freshman, counseled with students, and gave a number of tests. Mr. Henkel received his A.B. degree from Valparaiso University and his M.A. from Northwestern University. The Assistant principal, Mr. James Mundy, had charge of attendance. He also kept track of lockers and their combina- tions, directed the hall monitors, sponsored the Student Coun- cil, and saw that sick students got home. He received his B.S. and M.A. from Ball State Teachers College. THOMAS ROBERTS Mr. Roberts, the Industrial Coordinator at V.H.S. , whose job is to supervise the maintenance of the city schools and school construction, received his B.S. degree from Ball State Teachers College and his M.S. from Iowa State College. The Board of Education. is chosen from the citizens of the community because of their interest in the school system and their prominence in other civic affairs. lt's primary concern is the management and supervision 'of the school system. Very little appreciation is shown to these civic-minded citizens for the time and effort that they exert to improve our schools. G. WARREN PHILLIPS The Superintendent of the Valparaiso Community Si-hools, G. Warren Phillips, spent the past year solving many important problems. The school enrollment has soared and much planning for the future has had to be made. Mr. Phillips has worked diligently to improve our school program each year. Due to his foresight and leadership., the Valparaiso schools are rated among the top in Indiana. Mr, Phillips graduated from DePauw University with an A.l3. degree and reccivcf a M.S. from Indiana Uni- versity. 14 3
