Secretaries Answering telephone calls is but a minor item in the daily routine of Grace Rick- ard and Irene Thiel, secreta- ries for Mr. Phillips and Mr. Telle respectively. Managing correspondence, keeping files, and greeting the students with a cheerful smile under any circumstances are a few of the numerous services they execute with calm efficiency. Irene Thiel is a novice in her field while Grace Rickard has served the school faithfully for many years. SCHOOL BOARD Below is pictured the Board of Education for the Valparaiso City Schools. The members are appointed for a three-year term by the city council, rotating the office of president, treasurer, and secretary each year. The most recent appointment be- comes secretary. In this manner there are always at least two members with past experience. By appointing the members to a second term, they are able to better serve the community through additional experience, gained in their first term. As this procedure is often followed, the school system has always had able leadership. Mr. Casbon, president, is now completing his second term. The other members of the board are Mr. Burns and Mr. Hathaway, both serving new terms. ORVAL R. BURNS Treasurer LYNNET M, CASBON President WALTER H. HATHAVi AY Secretary
