Drafting the School Paper To get the information on all branches ol activity in the high school is the job ot the Valpost slatt, which piilylishes the school paper under the sponsors ship ol Mrs. ljintna H. Poor. These future journalists clo all the writing, proofreading, copy reading, sorting, and mailing of the hi-weelily paper. Fach stall first receives a semesf ter ol training in journalism and then is prerared to do the actual Work on the paper. Money is raised for financing this project by selling suhscriptions and ad- vertisements to local businesses. All the soliciting and collecting is done by the stall. For many years the Valpost has received a lirst class rating from the Na- tional Scholastic Press Association, and a number ot ineinbers in the past have qualified for the International Quill and Scroll. A holiday issue of six pages was issued this year before Christmas, and also a senior edition at the close ol school. Journalism Staff 29

Girl Reserves Drop Point System The Girl Reserves is the only service club tor girls in the school. Formerly the girls in this club earned points by rendering services, but since the war this point system has been discontinued for the duration, However, the girls are kept active by giving an annual Hi-Y and GR. welcome to all new students, writing Christ- mas letters as a group to service men, and planning the V Boom. The girls also at- tend a local church as a body twice a year with their sponsors, Miss Clare McGillicuddy, Miss Helen Miller, and Miss Audrey Shauer. Because Commando classes are conduct- ed in the morning, the girls meet on every other Monday at tour o'clock instead ot the former assembly period. The new members are inducted in a tormal candlelight service in February, when the purpose and ideals of the club are explained, and the president lights the candle oi each new member. Representatives of the club attend the an- nual district conierence where they get ace auainted with other clubs and bring back new ideas to the school. They also collected clothing tor a relief project.
