The school year of i944-45 finds Valparai- so I-ligh School the proud possessor of two new chief executives Mr. S. M. Woodruff as principal and Mr. G. W. Phillips as super- intendent. These two men, with the aid of their secretaries, Mrs. Charlotte Barkley and Mrs. Grace Rickard, respectively, have to- gether laid out the plans for their first year in our school system and have helped to make this an unusually successful year. S. M. WOODRUFF Principal Among the most important of the new practices which have been developed dur- ing the past few months are the Student Council, which replaces the Recreation Council, a cafeteria providing noon lunches, and the election of a homecoming queen. Several clubs have been dropped because of the morning gym classes and the lack of teachers who have had time to serve as sponsors, Office Secretaries MRS. G. W. PHILLIPS Superintendent The blueprints are drawn by the members of the Board of Education, who are appoint- ed by the city council. At present the board is composed of Mr. Lynnet Casbon, presi- dent, Mr. Marvin C, Cain, treasurer, and Mr. Homer M. lessee, secretary. Mr. Cain is completing his fifth year, Mr. Casbon, who filled the term of the late Dr. Gerald H. Stoner, is completing his first year, and Mr. lessee, formerly principal of the high school, Architects Who Plan G. W. PHILLIPS Superintendent DePauw University, AB. Indiana University, M.S. is the newest member of the board. After the blueprints have been drawn, the members select the engineers and architects who build the finished building. They meet with the chief architect, Mr. G. W. Phillips, superintendent, on the second Tuesday of each month and draw plans for the future.
