RAYMOND LUCAS, SUPERIHTENDENT MESSAGE Since early colonial days, the education of American youth has been uppermost in the minds of parents One of the first steos taken after the settlement of Jamestown, Virginia was to establish a school for the children of the settlers To us now the early day school seems to primitive and obsolete but perhaps it served its purpose because from that little insignificant subscription school has sprung some of the most powerful thinkers in the world Large colleges and universities have been established all over supposed to change Education is a continuous and changing thing Methods and procedures change almost overnight because we are living in a generation when things are really happening Compare if you will the methods used during the Revolutionary War and world War II Compare the little log cabin scho l with one of our modern high schools today Can't you see drastic changes? Yes, and you will see greater and better changes in the methods of education in the future This being true, it behooves us to grasp every opportunity to further our education in its broadest sense The religious, moral, physical, and financial values that accompany education cannot be rightly challenged The time has come for all American people to answer the call to educate themselves in order to make America stronger This can come about onlv if we unite ourselves with a bond of friendship and brotherly love for each other to the end that someday peace will reign everywhere 1 America.
