They strut as they walk through the halls, secure in the knowledge that they belong. The afternoon social is held and for the first time the boys actually dance with the girls. Our first float-chicken wire doesn't come already stuffed? I will not give an autobiogra- phical speech in front of all those people. What's a Hi-Y? Why didn't Shakespeare write in English? You mean we finally get to go to a night dance? Such are the realizations and shattered dreams of the per- secuted ninth grader. The Class of 1971, under the leadership of Gene Vinik, directed their enthusiasm and energy toward the building of their first float, ':The Time Tunnel.
