Nor did we like studying the same wars over and over again and getting the answers to our time-lines wrong by one letter. And if we had to listen one more time to our teachers tell us that we resembled the flappers of the Roaring Twenties we would have revolted. Learn- ing about World History by reading the review book and watching films was fun. But when the Regents came . . . . home economics What could be nicer than learning to cook, sew and take care of babies? There I was, so proud of my fried fish dinner, carefully carry- ing it to the table, the smile of achievement on my face, and then my foot slipped. I didn't give up though. I turned to sewing instead. My dress was beautiful. Unfortunately, I forgot to leave an opening for my head. I decided then that my field was definitely children. I can still hear Mrs. Brady screaming that I was drowning the rubber dummy in its bath. I finally did master the art of creating a souffle that didn't collapse, of buying the right size pattern and of getting a baby clean without killing it first. Marriage, here I come! 'S '52 K?
