mathematics , V- ,un 1- am W!i.e,,:- Qll, ' -,f-, Mr. John Blaney Ariifzg Chairman I marched into Math for the first time armed with sharp- ened pencils, a protractor and a great deal of self-assurance. The first two setbacks were finding out I didn't know how to fold my homework paper, and discovering that a pair of compasses was one implement, not two. After sitting down to a table of trigonometric functions, and swallowing the square roots, I picked up the nearest pen and ruler and set out to attack the theorems and corollaries which were in my way. Through a maze of swampy cleltas I walked, charging up and down slopes, losing many fractional coefficients along the way. Sometimes the results were positive, sometimes negative, but what really almost killed me was finding out that some problems were just undefined. The war took six years, and the probability of success seemed slim, and though there were casualties and failed tests along the way, I finally received my honorable discharge, an integral part of my life. Mr. William Von Novak J' lop: Mr. Anthony Macchia bolloms Mrs. Mary Weiss Mr. Thomas Collins, Chairman social studies We complained constantly about having to spell the names of cities that no longer exist and having to memorize a hundred rivers, countries and lakes for a map test that only consisted of two questions. Nor did we like studying the same wars over and over again and getting the answers to our time-lines wrong by one letter. And if we had to listen one more time to our teachers tell us that we resembled the flappers of the Roaring Twenties we would have revolted. Learn- ing about World History by reading the review book and watching films was fun. But when the Regents came . . . .
