pupil personnel guidance I'm determined! I push my way through seniors screaming, Driver Ed., and seventh graders crying, Help! knocking over books and table in my way. Finally, I arrive at my destination-guidance. At the other end of the room, I spot my counselor being attacked by a mass of irate students, waving mistake-rid- den IBM schedules. I recognize the one leading the pack as the football player who was put in a home ec. class. I edge closer and barely hear my counselor shout, Be with you in a minute . . ., as he is swept into his office. Grabbing this precious time, I decide to cram for my math test. Immediately, two secretaries tear over to me and, as the dust clears, I find 3,000 papers in my lap, waiting to be alphabetized. After 2 hours of alphabetizing sans lunch, I very politely return the papers, only to be ousted for not having a pass. I WILL NOT GIVE UP! reading Equipped with an extensive library and workshop area, the reading department helps students make the adjustment between ele- mentary and high school reading. Skills are improved by the corrective and development- al training the department offers. How the student approaches the textbook of a particular course is also of concern to Miss Patterson, who coordinates her efforts with those of the classroom teacher. When this happens he can seek the aid of the school psychologist, Mr. Yaca- lis. Simultaneously working with family, teachers and guidance counselors, Mr. Yacalis helps students overcome their difficulties and re-adjust to academic life. Mr. Tasos Yacalis I1 U FSS I don't know how Mrs. Nimmich knew that my stomach ache came at the same time as my Math test. Or how she knew that the thermometer read 1040 because I stuck it in the radiator when she wasn't looking. Or that I really couldn't see the big E on the eye chart. Better yet, how did she know that I've been skipping the dieter's lunch and eating ice cream cones for dessert? I don't know how she knows, but I know one thing: she knows! Mrs. Dorothy Nimmich N
