Getting off to a slow start in a new league, North's football team recovered to go undefeated in its final five games. Initial hard-fought losses to Seaford, Roose- velt and top-ranked Hempstead did not discourage the Spartans' hopes for attaining a winning season. As a result the Spartans bounced back to defeat Malverne, New Hyde Park, Lynbrook and their traditional rival South. As in past years, the outcome of the North-South game remained in doubt until the final play. A long Spartan drive in the final minutes climaxed by a touchdown pass from quarterback Vini Dini to end jack Newcombe proved to be the decisive score in the 12-6 victory. This win gave North a 4-2 league record and a tie for second place. Once again, members of Miele's gridiron gang were elected to all-star teams.
