junior carnival Splattered with paint, sticky with cotton candy, we leave our Carnival, the most profitable in North Highs his- tory: many of us with only memories, some with upset stomachs, and a few with souvenirs. For the well-dressed spend- er, Steve Schwartz auctions off various Salvation Army rejects, from wide ties, to army berets, to saddle shoesg for the adventurous there is food and drinkg for the I'll take a chance group, there's a raffle. Hard-working chairmen, Marty Rabach and Judy Goldberg, make sure, too, that kids can lose their money at the quicker-than-the-eye turtle races, the nerve-racking magic wand, and the inevitable nickel pitch. fl y p f J' l i A 'el I Us 'grail .Ami MQ, D 8141 a fri wif, l 'gi Z, 'Y -ff l lit lla lla ',ff'l3+if?l l lNV'l ll f-I ' 1, ,. Xl eleventh grade We return to school thinking, This will be our hardest year, -but don't really know what we mean. We meet Mr. Mercurio, our fourth guidance counselor in five years, and another new social advisor, Mr. Davis. At grade coun- cil meetings President Steve Miller impresses us with his amazing vocabulary. Our first major test, the PSAT starts everyone worrying about the future, but we forget all that in the excitement of building our float, Alice in Wonder- land , which cops third place at the North-South game, Our Junior candy stand isn't too profitable-more candy is eaten than sold. National Merits are taken and National Honor Society inducts twenty-six juniors, whose swelled heads are deflated by the SAT's. In chemistry Larry Bloom sends the odor of pineapples reeking throughout the halls, but it doesn't give us the high feeling we've gotten from wearing our new rings. .R , 'LA MAD l SEHERE WEQQQSIQ 3 ',f- , TRIEEOUT UNDER Q .,.q, ,a . . student council elections Council Elections becomes a fight to see which party can spend the most money on campaigns. Thumbs Up, chaired by Aileen Gould and Steve Evans, distributed combs, rulers, pens and telephone dialers. jeff Tabak, the leader of PLAN retaliates with larger combs, buttons and rulers. Students choose their parties and attend numerous fund- raising dances with bands and refreshments. In return for this support, the candidates promise a student lounge, pop music to fill the lunchroom, and a coke machine. After hearing all the speeches and deciding who are the best-quali- fied Spartans, students go to the polls and elect Richie Horowitz, Doug Falk, Karen Schonberg, Dickie Bentley and Linda Balogh.
